The first part of this really made me LOL. As far as your second half, I would say your argument is heavily flawed. You are assuming they travel light years to get here, fly around, get grainy photos taken of them and head out. If they are here, they are probably here for a reason beyond our comprehension and intelligence. There are rumors that they are here collecting genetics, or that they are giving us technology and knowledge little by little to help us advance without too much exposure. My point is you don't know and I don't know.....yet.

All of the vessels seem quite different in every picture. And they seem to get more advanced in the same timeframe that our weapons and flying vehicles become more advanced.

I think as we progress technologically, we will see more and more of these craft. In the 50's and 60's people did not always readily carry a camera with them. Fast forward to our time now and almost everyone has a smartphone equipped with a camera. Go and watch Paranormal caught on video, there are some very compelling videos out there of what we thought was not possible.

I'm no expert on video analysis by any means, but I've seen pretty much every UAP/UFO video that can be seen.
As with the Phoenix lights, though this one is of a much smaller scale, it appears to be not one single object, but several different lights in some formation. Whatever this was, was not a single, large object.
Aside from the "tic tac" videos released by the government, it's hard to dig into really any UFO/UAP video and not very easily cast doubt upon its authenticity. And I'm a believer in extraterrestrial/ancient Earth advanced technology. Since the tic tac vids were released by the gov, I automatically doubt. What is most authentic in those videos is the reaction of the highly educated, trained and skilled pilots. They witnessed something that they'd never seen, doing things it shouldn't have been physically possible to do.

I’d imagine if they are that advanced, having tech that purposely fricks up our cameras probably isn’t that big of a stretch.
