The bill aims to create a federal commission charged with investigating the enduring impacts of slavery and its aftermath, along with developing concrete proposals for reparations to African Americans who are descendants of slaves, Pressley said.
Should go about as well as the broadband fiasco. How many million/billions of dollars will be stolen just for this step of the process?

Funny how it never happens when they have the house and Presidency.
Was thinking the same thing. They had 2 years where they controlled all 3 branches, and another 2 years where they had 2 of the 3 (but most likely could have gotten the votes in the house) and never tried to bring this up. Now that they don't have any of the 3, they want to feign outrage and pass a bill that they know will fail so they can point the finger.

I'll support them getting a one-time payment of $75,000 each, but they had to revoke their United States citizenship and move to Africa. With that kind of money there, they can be kangz n' shite.
Id support this

Most of the arguments I've seen for reparations don't call for payments to individuals. They call for investment into black communities, which looks like infrastructure, after school programs, etc.
The all black elementary schools here are already newer and nicer than the majority white schools(which there are only a few). They get all the bells and whistles

What about other "neglected " communities?
It's racist, period!
Allotting anything by skintone is going to disadvantage other skintones by the very function of it.

OK, you live in one city out of .... a lot in America. Do you believe every city looks identical to yours?

If their ancestors were enslaved for hundreds of years in the United States, they should also advocate for reparations.

Why don't you list the average incomes for white people in those places? Those numbers are meaningless on their own.

Interestingly, the same thing every American institution has been doing for 25 years

A House Democrat plans to introduce a resolution calling for the U.S. to spend trillions of dollars on reparations for Black Americans this week.
1. Blacks in America are more prosperous than blacks anywhere in the world. Instead of reparations, they should be sending us thank you notes.
2. No amount of money we give them will EVER be enough. They'll just come back for more because slavery, Jim Crow, etc are not the problem. If I had to name the biggest problems holding back blacks in America, slavery and Jim Crow wouldn't even be in the top 5

How about, "No".
The Blacks already have a zillion programs set up for their communities and betterment.
Also, "The United States" did not have hundreds of years of slavery. 1865-1776 does not even a full century make.

while I don't support reparations
I support them more than wasting the equivalent money on amorphous "programs" and useless community centers and never-materializing upgrades to schools and corruption and grift.

Precisely. No one alive today has been nor has ever owned a slave as an American.
Reparations is such a stupid suggestion as is more programs that'll just be abused.

That’s how extortion/blackmail works. The extorter relies on always having something to hold over his victim’s head in perpetuity.

Calling for trillions in reparations when we have a debt crisis is the definition of not reading the room
Americans of all political persuasions know that we can't continue with the loose spending policies that got us here
People aren't willing to sacrifice social security and healthcare and other crucial budget line items for trillions in reparations. Now is NOT the time to be adding even more unneeded debt

I'm down with a one time payment, an optional one way plane ticket and the forfeiture of any future "special" race based considerations.
The "Community" would never give up their ticket to grievance though... so it ain't gonna happen.
