I see no difference between some in this thread and the westboro baptist church. Shouldn't y'all be out protesting somewhere?
I hear you can win a speed pass to bypass the line at the pearly gates by designing the best God hates figs sign.

The fact is this forum is full of fig-hating "Christians". Kudos to the believers in here who are actually preaching love and forgiveness. You know, the Jesusy stuff.
See here is where it gets dicey. Christians can love the person but not approve of their actions and also not participate in those actions. There is nothing about that that is unloving.
What you desire is approval. Someone to say "yep you're doing just fine. Whatever it is you want to do as long as it feels right to you is ok. Jesus understands." That's not biblical and the lack of approval gets twisted into a form of hate because NO ONE likes to have their choices called into question. It's a form of rejection of God telling you that you know what you are doing is wrong.

I said that, and I absolutely believe it. There are people in areas of our country who grow into adulthood without ever hearing the gospel of Christ. It's a travesty.
There may be people who get to adulthood in this country without hearing YOUR SPECIFIC idea of a gospel presentation, but nobody gets to that point without hearing the basics of Christianity.

Jesus.
No, we dont. But Ive quoted her claim from the OP article twice now in response to others making completely unsupported statements that SHE was the one that drew first blood. Sure, its only her word. But thats better than random forum posters just pulling shite out of their asses.

Respectfully, no it's not. You're seriously misguided if you believe this.

Sure, but that's often not what we see (here and in general in this country). What we very often see is an elevation of homosexuality above other sins. Whereas adulterers and drunkards and such are easily forgiven and forgotten, gays are looked at as "sick" and because their "sin" is an inherent part of who they are they are treated differently.

Yes, they do.
ETA: There is only one brand of Christianity. Jesus died for your sins. You accept Him as your Lord and Savior (and actually mean it), and you get into Heaven. The rest is part of trying to live your life in compliance with His teachings.

Based on the very fact that she wrote the op-ed I can safely say this is false.

Keeping her away from her siblings so they dont get the gay doesn't seem very loving. Nor does reprimanding her for putting a pic of someone holding a sign that says "im gay and my dad still loves me".
Look I get it. A Christian is bound by the Bible to try to avert people from what the Bible tells them is sin. Thats fine as long as its done in a respectful manner. As opposed to the general sentiment around here which is.....casting her in the worst light possible, calling her an attention whore and justifying it by saying she shouldn't do this in a public forum when, in the OP article, she claims her father has done so repeatedly.
Comes off as just a good excuse for some good old fashioned gay hating.

This is kind of a bitch move from the daughter, but the whole thing is pretty poetic. This anti-liberty holy roller has been injecting himself into local politics for years. Part of the reason we can't even pass something as simple as a damn lottery in this state is because people like this, a jackass divorcee without enough common sense to childproof a swimming pool (and who apparently can't even shepherd his own family), have convinced everyone that allowing individuals any type of agency over their lives is THE DEVIL.

Lets assume for a second that what she said was absolutely true. That her father repeatedly and without consent uses her in public as a cautionary tale.
What exactly would you have her do? In my opinion, what she did was absolutely justified if he cast the first public stone.

Nope. You see "living in sin" treated differently than "being a sinner."

Every situation depends solely on whether or not the individual expresses a desire to change his/her ways. If a person expresses a desire to quit living in his/her sin, then we will absolutely try to help him/her. That includes people who suffer from homosexual sin (or any sexual sin). The problem you have is you want us to accept homosexuals who have no intent to even attempt to quit living in their sin.

I've already said enough on my stance on the issue itself, and others will have their own entrenched positions.
I won't weigh into it any more other than to say that I believe there are just a few core non-negotiables in Christianity. These are pretty much along the lines of what Jesus himself said, and even some of Paul's writings I can find hard to get behind.
The vast majority of what we believe these days has been filtered through translations, edicts, and other man-made overlays. I don't buy the idea that whatever I read in any of the 20 translations on my app is the inerrant word of God when they have enough gray area just among themselves.
At the end of the day, even though I find much of what he wrote to be "out there", I like this passage from Thomas Merton:

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Simply not possible, it's far too ingrained into our culture. Every Christmas and Easter shows spanning 60 years and every genre are played over and over again on dozens of channels about the birth and death of Jesus. Every musical artist worth their salt in the last 100 years has a Christmas album full of songs about the birth of Jesus. Nativity scenes and church billboards are ubiquitous. The Bible is STILL the best selling book every single year in America. School children are taught from an early age the meaning of Holidays like Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, etc.
And on and on and on

I agree with all of that except the part about it being an inherent part of who they are. We all choose to commit our sins, and we can choose not to. We are in control of ourselves. Any other explanation is an excuse or cop out.
Again it is not so much that adulterers and drunkards are not looked down on it's just that it is much harder to identify them. But Adam and Steve are pretty obvious.

Knowing that we celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas is not the same as knowing the gospel. I'm not sure why you think children would know that's why we have Christmas during their "Winter Break," but whatever floats your boat. I think far more children think Christmas is about Santa Claus, but Jesus being born isn't the gospel anyway so it's irrelevant to my point. The gospel is about Him dying for our sins.
What makes you think school children are taught about Easter (the actual gospel)? Good Friday is no longer considered a holiday from school, and is thus not on their radar. Who would tell them about it? Their parents?
