Normative moral relativism holds that because nobody is right or wrong, everyone ought to tolerate the behavior of others even when large disagreements about morality exist.
There exists a huge moral war. This is a prime example.

This seems like common-sense legislation.
Damn right. I hope it makes its way to Portland, Seattle, St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, etc. I hope they are completely and fully successful in implementing this in every blue city.
I then want more common sense legislation that bans the stores from putting anything behind anything locked. 100% common sense. Totally, completely, common sense legislation.
After that… laws that requires businesses to actually go pull and deliver to people everything they want at the front of the store where they don’t have to walk back to the isles to physically steal. Hand them a list, they go bag, off you go. That is common sense legislation that will keep criminals out of stores. Just bag it and hand it to them at the door. Common sense.

They need to make the penalties for shoplifting harsher in California. That's why that state is going through an epidemic of robberies. It's no consequence for criminal behavior in that state.

and now they want to make it illegal for retail employees to stop you from stealing.
That's not what this bill does.

Cortese, a Democrat representing much of Santa Clara County in the heart of Silicon Valley, told Newsweek: "SB 553 is focused on protecting employees. The bill does not prohibit employees from stopping theft. It does prevent employers from asking non-security personnel to confront a person involved in criminal activity. We don't want rank and file employees to be forced to place themselves in harm's way."

The people that run the cities want shoplifting.
The penalties below a felony amount are virtually non existent. Stupid progressives are too dumb to realize it aint the hood rats benefitting the most, its the white drug addicts selling the stuff on ebay who are.

So they are saying that now security guards cannot stop the very thing they are hired to stop?

This seems like common-sense legislation. You're talking about activities which should be addressed by law enforcement personnel, not store clerks.
Yes, because we know law enforcement is supported and there’s an officer around every store corner who can be quickly available to “talk it out” with the perp and then nicely ask if they’ll consider returning the items.

You bought that!
You saving 2,500 bucks a year on your health insurance?
Enjoying “the adults back in charge??”
Loving your “transitory” inflation?
They hang you with the “this action does this!!!1!1!1!1!!” Every single time. Every. Single. Time. You get your kick in the balls. Then, rinse and repeat.
I guess every small business is going to have to hire security eh? Just the cost of doing business you filthy, wealthy, one percenters!!

If whta this demoncrat is saying is true, I actually might support this:

I have a friend who used to work at a 7-11 that had a lot of theft but no security. The employees were told by the manager to confront shoplifters and that put her in several dangerous positions.
But we all know these problems are created and perpetuated by the democrats anyway. So to come out with legislation to protect workers from shoplifters when they are at the same time emboldening the shoplifters is peak clown world shite

But some store bosses are furious about the plans, with the California Retailers Association mocking the move as an open invitation for thieves "to come in and steal."
How much you want to bet that I can guarantee exactly how the California Retailers Association has historically voted, and which candidates they've historically supported?
You made your bed.

Might as well just put the most popular items on a table outside and advertise a 100% off sale

Texas is weak and ghey as hell already. Every major city in TX has Soros DAs that will let them do whatever they want. Then you have all the ghey rainbow shite they are promoting.
Texas really has become a sad state.

Property value will plummet, and property investors that are in bed with the politicians will feast.

Meanwhile here in Fresno we just hired 10 additional cops just to monitor the streets for illegally modified vehicles & street racing. That’s the entirety of their position. They even set up a tip line to call in. Here’s a quote from the current Chief of Police:
You can get a massively different experience depending on where you live. The Bay and SoCal give all of us a bad name.

staff from being forced by their employers to step-in during robberies
I worked retail for years when I was younger. I don't remember a single company I worked for, nor those any I knew worked for, that ever "forced" their employees to attempt to foil robberies. The opposite was true, that employers would urge their employees not to get involved. The desire to avoid lawsuits in the retail industry is massive, to the point where the only job I ever walked out on was in retail management when upper management allowed a shoplifter to get off without charges as long as he gave the merchandise back (this was after a mall cop and I chased the thief, finally wrestling him down in the back of a truck stopped at a nearby red light).
All this bill does is double-down on the insanity of Cali's $950 ceiling on misdemeanor theft (meaning no arrest).
