They existed, we had AK-47’s and SKS’s

And Clinton’s ban didn’t stop anyone from buying and selling most models, just made them more expensive

the point is that Trump has been president for one year yet Dems say he has blood on his hands if he doesn’t ban assault rifles

Because during those 16 years, Democrats were too busy being against illegal immigration to be worried about banning assault rifles.

How time and conveniences change...

Clinton did

In 1994

The ban did nothing to curb shootings and it expired 10 years later

To be fair, the original AWB had a sunset in '04 so I don't think it's accurate to blame Clinton here. Obama it would be though.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB)—officially, the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act—is a subsection of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, a United States federal law that included a prohibition on the manufacture for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms it defined as assault weapons, as well as certain ammunition magazines it defined as "large capacity".
The ten-year ban was passed by the U.S. Congress on September 13, 1994, following a close 52–48 vote in the Senate, and signed into law by then President Bill Clinton the same day. The ban only applied to weapons manufactured after the date of the ban's enactment, and it expired on September 13, 2004, in accordance with its sunset provision.

In fairness Obama tried to get momentum on this a few times but six years of his presidency was essentially a stalemate between branches of government.

Because it's a losing issue. Seriously, even most rural Democrats own lots of guns. The anti-gun folks are generally urban progressives who've never fired a gun before, never will and think everyone else in America should do the same.

Yep by running guns into Mexico.

Because they couldn't (although I don't think Bill had any desire to do so). It's pretty sickening that the press is standing on the graves of these kids to get at Trump, who does not have the authority to do such a thing.

But pretty much nothing but crickets on the issue from dems during the two years this wouldn't have been a problem.

Weird.

Clinton, along with Congress, did

Obama, contrary to what conservative media convinced you, was not and did not put himself out to be a dictator. If he could have passed it he would have but NRA money and ideologues in congress who would have voted against literally anything Obama proposed wouldn't act on it.

It didn't ban anything at that, just created two categories of rifles: pre-ban and AWB compliant and both had exactly the same functional characteristics.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB)—

Led to a wave election in which many longstanding Dems (who were burned getting strongarmed into voting for a law they really didn't like or think would be effective) were turned out and gave the Republicans control of the House for the first time in a month of Sundays (or longer) and gave us these fantastic two words: Speaker Gingrich.

What about when the Dems had a supermajority? Why didn't they pass gun control?

Interesting that he chose the years he COULDN'T easily pass it to try to.

Man. That's just hard to explain(actually, nah, easy). He, and the democrats prioritized re-election over the lives of children. Isn't that the way you'd phrase it?
