If that were a fact then this wouldn't have been a news story.

The government should not have decided this for the parents.

Who do you think will make those decisions once the government takes over healthcare completely?

How many children die because the healthcare isn't affordable?

You do realize a huge reason America is so abysmal in infant mortality is because a lot families cannot afford pre-natal care, right?

I'm not arguing in favor of socialized medicine, btw - but I am stating that if you care about children, you cannot pick and chose which ones to give a shite about.

Prayers for the family.

Unfortunate it has to be made a political talking point.

We all would. There was not a slim chance of success. There was no chance of success.

Have you heard of welfare/Medicare/medicaid? It's a solid 2/3 of our budget. People can get free care if they need it.

The best doctors in the world could do nothing for him. You'd rather he continue living on life support?

They weren't the best. Second of all the courts wouldn't even allow these people to try procedure with their own funds.

Even if the child passed away, the data gathered could have been used for the next person with the condition.

I thought this was supposed to be what Planned Parenthood was intended to provide. Instead it's a baby slaughterhouse.

You do realize a huge reason America is so abysmal in infant mortality is because a lot of the international reporting does not count premi-death as fetal mortality.

Very unfortunate. Should serve as notice to never bring anything like this into law in our country.

Had zip to do with cost or healthcare system, but keep on deceiving everyone.

This was about the rights of the child vs the rights of the parents.

This angers me to no fricking end.

Here, we hear the battle rage on every day about the role government should play in health care. We hear about how the left supports what is essentially a health care takeover by the Federal government. We hear how it'll be amazing when the Democrats lock arms together and tell us how it'll be all sunshine and daisies. We see the Democrats and the left mock the right when concerns are raised over giving the government all the say in our health care. We heard the left laugh when the term "death panel" was coined by Republicans. We were told that was ludicrous, and ridiculous and would never happen. And yet, HERE IT frickING IS. Explain how this was the best outcome for this child, lefties! Explain why the parents were prevented from using money they raised to help their child to actually help their child.

I am not a parent. One day I hope to be, but so help me God if I'm ever in a similar situation in the US with one of my kids and some doctor, or judge, or fricking bureaucrat tells me I can't get the best care for my child when I've raised the money for it. May God have mercy on their souls because I won't.

This is terrible. No person should be satisfied with the outcome here, and no lefty should ever dare talk down to anyone about what should be done with health care, because this travesty is the result of their school of thinking.

Thoughts and prayers to Charlie and his parents, and family.

True. Baby Charlie Gard's costs were going to be 100% covered in the US.

False. The politics of potential treatment not offered in Europe was wholly unacceptable to those healthcare systems.

Actually in this particular case it is a big win for humanity. The child had severe brain damage and would have never been able to live a productive or even happy life.

While I fully agree the government should not be making decisions for my family, at some point you just have to give it up for the greater good.

You already hear stories like this one...thanks to corporate insurance...but by all means keep complaining that the insurance industry has "your" best interests at heart.

To be fair, we have freedom of contract in that situation.

A judicial decision by a government entity is not the same thing.

I think the difference is meaningful.
