Climate change has pushed commercial fishermen to change their business plans, the way they fish, what they fish for, even their home ports. But when far-reaching climate legislation was drafted and filed in the House of Representatives last year (by a representative from Arizona), fishermen were shut out of the conversations. They may be shut out of their fishing grounds as well.

There are many positives in the 300-page bill, but one section would harm fishing communities across the nation, hamstring buy-local movements, increase seafood imports, and complicate efforts to combat climate change.

The initiative, dubbed 30x30, a focal point in the House version of the Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act, would require “protection” of at least 30 percent of U.S. oceans by 2030 by banning “all commercial extractive use” in broad swaths of the ocean, circumventing the country’s sustainable fishery management process. (Specific areas have not yet been identified.)

And folks wonder why they have been pushing all that plant based protein... I cannot wait for the plant based snapper filets, I am certain they taste wonderful...

It’s funny how Libs in Delaware think they care or understand more about the Gulf Coast than the people who live here, work here, and love it here.

Not to worry, when this artificially increases the price of lobster, Congressional douchebags will still be able to eat lobsters thanks to the US taxpayer.

It’s obvious they’re out to destroy the entirety of America. The economy, the Constitution, the people.

The orange man didn’t want this which is why he was sooooooo bad.

"A provision referred to as “30x30” could potentially limit American seafood access. Some 30x30 advocates have proposed establishing no-take marine protected areas in thirty percent of the nation’s federal waters by the year 2030, limiting access to the waters producing the majority of American seafood."

Ocean Strat

Starting to make sense why restaurants were singled out to be closed under COVID because the net result is it had significantly diminished the National Restaurant Associations lobbying clout because hundreds of thousands of restaurants went out of business.

shite like this infuriates me.. It prevents US fishermen from fishing in certain areas, but nothing can be done for other countries to fish in these areas.. i.e. Mexico, China, etc.

That's the old economy. We are going to have green jobs produced by people that never worked at a real job a single day in their life.

Don't let the professionals manage the catch, let the geniuses who know nothing about fish run the show.

Good thinking.

Whoosh....more jobs sucked out of the economy by Biden-Harris. All they can do is suck.

First you take these baws jobs away and now you tell them they can't go fishing in the gulf?

You're about to see a big uptick in people walking up to the white house gate and taking their shirt off and challenging Biden to a fight.

They'll make sure their salaries are high enough to afford it.

Exactly. If they really cared, but are stupid, they would do something positive just by chance some of the time. They hate you, they hate this country.

Almost every ban has been created by people who were not "subject matter experts." You don't ban something unless you ask people who either work in the field or will be affected by it.

People who were staunchly against Trump wanted him to fail but it's the whole "that's my ship that's sinking why do we want it to sink and die?" The ironic part is now Biden will do just that and more because he's never been a competent person much less politician.

I guess we will just have to hope enough people are pissed off that even fraud can't counterbalance future elections. Good news is while I want to live in the US if certain industries get banned then that will mean other countries will start making those industries and I'll live there.
