I would argue in perpetuity that anyone with a technical background, who has the skills and abilities to critically think and analyze data, who can read, study the subject, etc. can provide thoughtful and reasoned opinions on the subject.

I mean, you can argue that, but that doesn't make it true. In the real world, it takes years of full time research to fully understand even just a sub-field of any physical science you can imagine, and most of the others.

But let's say you're right. That means you ought be able to tell me how a warming trend with a timescale of decades can be accounted for by natural drivers of climate.

I'm all ears.

And Joe Bastardi? ***He isn't even respected within the ageing denialist community*** Judith Curry, who may actually be the only climate scientist left in denial, says “he does not understand the very basics of the science....Fox News needs to find a more credible spokesperson.” And physicists worldwide are laughing at him.

So.

The other guy is a Pakistani-American lawyer/political advisor who couldn’t even make Harvard Law even though he started on third base as a Harvard undergrad.

Just another checkbox hack who’s prolly also sympathetic to the radical moose limb bros.

But, climate reasons…

The engineers I've dealt with are smart on paper but absolute morons in practice. Even the "good ones". Things work differently in the real world.

Engineering team of 6 will take a week with their advanced software and CAD to design a piece of equipment with 54 levels of redundancy and then send it off to a shop to be built by a team of 12 with the lead time being approximately 5 weeks and a total cost of $65,000...

I'll sit at my desk with drafting paper, a pencil, a ruler and a compass for 12 hours, design a superior piece of equipment and build it with my coworker in two weeks from start to finish for $20,000.

Engineers are idiots and corporations are idiots for using them. I'm an even bigger idiot for being smarter and more efficient at my job than a college degreed engineer for roughly 25% of their pay.

If he’s like most mech engineers I’ve known/worked with over the years, his scientific knowledge, re: “climate” begins and ends at designing HVAC systems.

Another thing buddy, Judith Curry mistakenly concluded that manmade climate change affected the frequency and severity of weather. Joe Bastardi, who you and others mock, has published books before Curry had her come to Jesus moment refuting the climate scientists who parroted Curry.

So I still stand by my premise. Just because you can’t do what others can, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You want proof?

I can do it.

I guess, if I want science, since you don't appear willing to share your vast trove of knowledge, I will ask....a scientist.

Books? For real? You know anyone can publish a book saying anything they want, right? It's a free country. And I hate to break it to you, but the jury's still out on the issue of hurricane intensity. There is a lot that isn't understood about what drives hurricane intensity. They don't even know for sure if the AMO is natural or a result of the competing effects of aerosols and greenhouse gases, the present anthropogenic signal could easily be buried in the uncertainty over natural variability. Maybe Joe Bastardi should send something into the Journal of Climate and let them know he's got it all figured out.

The most comical of all is NCTigah who legit tries to act like he's some sort of climate scientist when we know he's a medical professional

So based on your argument in this thread, NCTigah’s medical degree makes him just as qualified to talk about climate science as Bill Nye and his mech engineer degree

If all you are looking at is degrees, sure. I would hazard a guess that Nye is probably a bit more well read on the issue.

You'll hear no argument from me on that matter.

I did a little reading about your friend Joe Bastardi. I can't even make sense of this maybe you can help:

quote:

CO2 cannot cause global warming. I’ll tell you why. It doesn’t mix well with the atmosphere, for one. For two, its specific gravity is 1 1/2 times that of the rest of the atmosphere. It heats and cools much quicker. Its radiative processes are much different. So it cannot — it literally cannot cause global warming.

Does he think gases in the atmosphere are stratified based on their molecular weight ? That would mean everyone living near sea level would be suffocating in a cloud of pure CO2, wouldn't it?
