This will make internet unaffordable like college became unaffordable when the government backed loans for basically everyone started.

I may be in the minority here, but 50mps should be free. The telecoms built the infrastructure on our tax dollars. We subsidized that shite. I view the web much like the interstate, as a system for commerce and trade, as well as leisure.

We should get something for our tax dollars besides shitty customer service.

If they don't ramp up the cancel culture/censorship bs, then I'm with you, tdj.

I mean why stop there.

That applies to all utilities.

Applies to numerous private industries.

Hell if you go down that path far enough absolutely everything should be free. Whatever that means.

Except you don't have to do that. There were tax dollars given so the telcoms could lay the initial backbone connections. We literally paid for it. Why shouldn't a certain level of access be granted?

1. Nothing is free.
2. This is so Dems can get internet to more of their base and spread their hate and persecution.

Free for those people getting unemployment, SNAP, and other low income subsidies. Not for average Americans of course.

So 40-60 cents per gallon state and federal taxes. If we can get that from those that pay no taxes but use the "free internet" it sounds like a deal.

Does it though? Entergy isn’t moving commerce. The S&WB isn’t generating tax revenue.

The internet is like the interstate system. You have unfettered access to the interstate. I’m all for charging a premium for faster internet speed, but baseline access should be free and widely available.

Edit: we are already collecting taxes on sales. Apply a portion of that tax to the 50mps access if needed.

Except that isn’t what the telecoms used those tax dollars for.
Nor does the “backbone” exist to provide such services to rural areas. NFL cities and Tier 2 cities? ... sure.
Rural America ? ... not so much.
Fifty Mbps? ..... lol ... dream on. Rural telecoms and satellite cannot even meet the current FCC definition at 25/3 Mbps asymmetrical... which the telecoms oversubscribe as much as they can in order to force subscribers to their 4G/LTE networks.

Politicians promise a lot to gullible constituents.... all the while accepting massive payments from the K-street lobbyists representing the national telecoms.

The game is rigged, and has been for decades .... meanwhile the taxpayers continue being fleeced by the globalist telecoms ...
