When ever the government claims anything is free it only applies to people in America who pay little or no net taxes.

Internet should be readily available to all.

3rd World nations have better internet, cell phones, and pay a lot less for them. They can barely get running water but pay 1/3rd of what we pay for high speed internet.

We get bent over by cell phone, internet, and cable providers and it is terrible. Their service is shite, channels continue to dwindle as costs sky rocket, and majority of them have already upgraded their lines.

Yep

For example you will only be able to go www.democrats.org to figure out how to vote

All "not real science" sites will be banned

Hard to find the percentages but it looks like 93% of the US population has access to the internet.

Except you don't have to do that. There were tax dollars given so the telcoms could lay the initial backbone connections. We literally paid for it. Why shouldn't a certain level of access be granted?

Exactly. The government built the roads. SHouldn't everyone get a free car?

I may be in the minority here, but 50mps should be free. The telecoms built the infrastructure on our tax dollars. We subsidized that shite. I view the web much like the interstate, as a system for commerce and trade, as well as leisure.

Because a car and access are obviously the same thing...

Your analogy is askew. I’m not advocating for a free computer or a phone, a “vehicle” to access the internet, but free access at 50mps for something we’ve already paid for.

Thank you for the links.

To be fair, they received funding for rural access. I know much, much, much more money was spent by the teleco for backbone and fiber to the home in urban areas that was not funded by the government.

But if your comment was for cheap, basic internet in rural areas where the government provided funding, I can see that.

That’s the most problematic areas, but they also received monies for infrastructure in urban areas. Those are just the links du jour.

It only benefits our society when everyone has access to the greatest invention in our history. It’s literally the great library and the road to commerce and trade all rolled into one.

And porn, lots of porn too...
