That isn't the root of the problem. That is a design feature.
Academia is controlled by the left and does their bidding. The govt gets in the student loan business, showering them on anybody, and funnels money to another leftist special interest group. They have NO incentive to control costs and now the sham will be bailed out just leke the state govts were.

the president can cancel up to $50,000 in student loan debt per borrower with the wave of his pen.

Cancelling debt doesn't fix the root of the problem - college has become way too expensive. Even state schools. Tuition prices have skyrocketed BECAUSE of student loans. It's a symbiotic relationship. Institutions see all this easy to access money out there and incoming 17/18 year olds don't really think critically about how much it truly costs to go to school.
TCU is unrecognizable to me these days. So many new fancy buildings have been built in the 10 years since I was a student. Tuition is also twice as much as it was when I went there. Over a 100% increase in only 10 years. The average person can't afford to go to TCU these days. They are only catering to the rich 1%ers from California now.
The massive increase in tuition prices have nothing to do with the quality of the education. It's about the new buildings, facilities and amenities.
Nailed it. Out of state costs to go to public schools are out of control too. It simply isn’t worth the cost.

I say cede the DC burbs to DC or Maryland and keep the rest. And I garantee you West Virginia would be right there without any sales job whatsoever. Deo Vindice
Us conservative people need to be damned sure to take control of the SE and exclude Georgia. We need to once again burn Atlanta to the damned ground.

And after the social justice bullshite over the last year, donations to universities will be down. I know LSU will NOT get another penny from me....

Meh. There are plenty of programs that I can’t benefit from that are fine.
I’m just not into student loan forgiveness specifically, regardless of paying my own off

Hell, 50K is nothing, Why not 100K?

What about the people of color who couldn’t get into school because of racist admissions departments? Let’s just give everyone $275,000 and not mention it again.

Biden Proposes Cancelling $50,000 In Student Debt For Every American
President Joe Biden's Secretary of Education is looking into whether the president can cancel up to $50,000 in student loan debt per borrower with the wave of his pen.
White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain said at a Politico Playbook event Thursday that Biden had asked Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to figure out if the president had legal authority to make the move and write the president a report.
On the campaign trail, which he reiterated more recently, he said he wanted to wipe away $10,000 per borrower, but prominent Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have pressed him to pursue $50,000 in debt relief per student.

They are losing millions. I know a group of 5 guys that probably give 500K per year that told TAF and the Alumni association to put them on the do not call list. All have purple jackets and 2 were recently Alumni of the year.

Cancelling $50,000 In Student Debt
This is an oxymoron on its face.
Debt is never cancelled; it will be paid, one way or another it's gonna getcha, getcha, getcha.

Posted on 4/1/21 at 7:51 pm to 14&Counting

After graduating from TCU in 2011, I consistently worked 2 jobs every year until 2018 when I finally finished paying off over $100k in loans. I'll never forget when I made that last payment in June 2018 - wrote a check for $5,000 to finish it off.
Should have dropped out and went into the oilfield. You could have made six figures and not had any debt. Poor choice

This will solve nothing......but insure future liberal votes!
It also mostly helps those that have to get loans for school, which are not disadvantaged minorities.

So people who can't afford college will pay the loans back for people who went to college and end up making more $$ over their lifetime anyway having a college degree?
Sounds logical.
I and I want my $25k back..I cut a 15k check 3 years ago to finish it after working 3 shutdowns in a row. Basically not seeing my family for 9 months. 9 months of 7 12s and 14s minus the occasional fatigue day every 19th day.

Or people who lived with their parents, worked a full time job, and had a scholarship. I didn’t party hard and drove a pos car. I graduated debt free. What do I get?
