Yeah, this is weak if that’s the best the GOP could do.
Disappointing, but I guess not surprising.

How bad do you think the R's caved?

Complely, I'm sure.

The "deal" they got was splitting the announcement up into two parts. The release the "we've reached a deal in principle" news release so everyone says "oh, good!" and stops paying attention to it. Then, they'll release the details later when no one is watching, so fewer Republican voters will realize they've been duped again.

It's.a better deal than Republicans usually get. They usually get the full blast to their voters. Huge win for republicans.

Ah - let me help you here. You see, people that pay taxes have had enough of paying with no representation. So no matter how much more blood a leech wants…….a leech is still a leech, w/ no say in how much more blood is available to said leech. So - move to Venezuela if you don’t like it

I'm assuming the people that pay taxes are going to be doing all the work, manning the register and stocking the shelves, cooking the food and busing and washing the dishes, etc since we are doing away with all the "leeches" right?

I would like all of the above completely eliminated over time (weening the population off of all social programs). I would continue to take care of disabled veterans.

There are a few things that the federal government should control, for example national defense, our sovereign borders, etc.

The government has no business taking from one group of people and giving to another group of people. They also have no business subsidizing some businesses over others.

Our prosperity has come from individual liberty and free market capitalism. While we no longer fully support these American ideals, we are still coasting on the fumes of those fundamental tenets.

This deal is no win for conservatives. We should go back to pre-pandemic spending now, with the goal of moving to pre-9/11/2001 spending over the long term. After that we can benchmark government spending to inflation.

Here are some numbers:

$4.4 trillion was the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget; the last pre-COVID.

$6.4 trillion is the expected current/2023 budget.

45.4% increase it is.
You have to ask yourself... what is government doing better/more of today that's 50% better than it was in 2019.

Hell, go back to 2007 numbers. Government spending is up 237%. ($2.7T->$6.4T). What is government doing twice as good today as it did in 2007? I can't think of a damn thing that it's going better.

And let the next guy cave?

The ultimate problem is voters don't want spending cut. They claim they do, until they find out that SS, Medicare, and DoD are what actually need to be cut to reduce (not eliminate) the deficit.

No matter who you put there, they will cave.

agreed to cap non-defense discretionary spending at 2023 levels for two years

This is a cave by Republicans. They initially said they wouldn't agree to anything but a cap at 22 levels. This means that this years budget will continue and next years congress can just ignore this deal.

I wish. 2000 total spending was $1.8T. You have to hack $4.6 trillion dollars out of the budget. What would you cut to get that done?

You only get about 1/3 of this pie.

The only thing they are doing better is handing out money to buy votes. This is their main job as they see it.

I don’t have much faith that it will get any better. I hope that leaders will come together to right the ship, but it’s sinking fast under the flooding weight of open borders, a truly willfully ignorant majority of the population that are net beneficiaries of government, and so- called leaders that are doing their level best to ensure our eventual resemblance of Venezuela.

If it’s to that extreme, which I’m not being out of hand dismissive of the scenario, but if that’s the case, why would they even care to conceal it anymore? They could just be exactly like Biden, seeing as how he’s shamelessly flaunted it in our faces for sport, i.e. doing and saying whatever the hell he wants, as if there’s a literal force field around him shielding him from any consequences whatsoever. And to me that’s not hyperbolic at all - it’s a dead on accurate description of Biden’s bastardized approach to wielding power. So back to the interaction in Congress, again, why would they even go to the trouble of theater anymore if that’s what’s going on?

Really, I would cut almost everything over time. Social security/ healthcare which make up over half of our budget should be phased out completely among hundreds of other federal government priorities that simply should not be in their purview.

Heard the call. RINOs congratulating McCarthy for getting almost zippo in exchange for $4T debt ceiling hike was enough to make you puke.

(Actually, it’s so bad they won’t give a figure for the debt ceiling hike … only that it’s suspended til Q1 2025. Our bill was a year less.)
