Well on this front he is right if you are judging it based on the situation as it exists right now—this virus broke containment months ago while China was hiding it.
Zero amount of border closing is going to do any good. The virus has been here for months already, everywhere.
ETA: I’m not advocating for open borders, just saying that shutting it down now isn’t the answer to the virus spread. If anything, Mexico’s northern cases are probably linked to US cases contracted from Chinese people coming through US airports, etc.

Currently a few thousand ASU and UofA students are in Mexico for Spring break. They cannot close the border crossing at Lukeville without a huge problem with American citizens being stuck in Puerto Penasco / San Carlos, etc.
It is a political problem more than a medical problem. We have a trip planned for next week down there and I am probably going to cancel out of fear of being stuck in Mexico.

Someone needs to tell Bernie that his support for open borders is why he's doing much worse than he did in 2016.
It turns off a lot of rural voters that would've been receptive to him and limits his support to white progressives mostly.
