So, I'm watching BBC on TV and the guest is a journalist they sent to the US to check out Trump rallies. IE, 'Who are these weird people?'

She made an interesting observation that I shall paraphrase:

'They don't like politicians. They like Trump because he is not one. So, when he is attacked they hear 'politicians should not behave this way' and they think 'yes, that's why we voted for him.'

It explains why the press can't put a dent into his support. It also makes me wonder if future candidates for President come from this rare ground of 'never held office.'

We know that some foreign candidates are trying to run as 'The Trump of (pick your country)'. But they all have political backgrounds and are trying to capitalize on Trump's issues...like nationalism.
Thoughts?

I've thought this for a while now. Trump started a trend that will inevitably take over politics in the near future, you're seeing some already with the midterms.

I also think the "anti-PC in politics" mindset he harbors will become a trend and have many imitators as well. The era of politicians blowing smoke up their constituents' asses is dying out, thank god. The ones still hanging on to the "old" way will eventually suffer from it.

Whether that's a good thing long-term or not is yet to be known. Trump is one of a kind in so many ways the whole thing may fall flat on its face when no one can come close to duplicating it.

Agree 100%. When the GOPe and leftists complain about his style and word choices, I take that as a compliment for Trump. He's the same man I voted for and I think that's a good thing.

Trump’s success is at least I’m part due to the game of “bad cop, incompetent cop” the Dems and GOP have been playing for years.

If the GOP hadn’t been feckless and incompetent from about 2006 to 2014 (the leadership, not the voters), Trump wouldn’t have gotten the traction he did. It was the people’s way of telling the party “Can you hear me now?”

a cult can never understand how a non cultist thinks or reasons

the first thing you have to give up to be a cultist is the desire as well as the ability to reason and formulate an opinion on your own, you must look to cult leaders to tell you how to think and fell about everything and everyone around you

I hope this trickles down to our governors race in LA. I would love to see what Eddie Rispone could do.

With the internet and modern communications, people have access to so much more information than used to be possible. One of the results is that we are so much more cynical and jaded than we used to be, including when it comes to politics.

Long gone are the days of yore when the townfolk would gossip "Have you heard? Senator Johnson is coming to town next week. I've heard he's 15-feet tall and once fought off an entire British regiment with only a broken musket and a tomahawk."

Politicians are no longer revered figures. They are pretty much treated with skepticism and suspicion by default.

I think that's why people don't give a shite anymore whether a politician is "polished." Everyone knows now that it's just a BS veneer. The jig is up.

The BBC doesn't really understand the American right but they do make an effort to be fair. A lot more so than our MSM.

Not surprising to me. For a long long time I have literally heard people speak about thinking as being hard to do. These are the types that are herd animals, unable to think and reason for themselves.

Very true. Obama supporters continued to support anti American policies even in the face of overwhelming evidence of his Marxist ideology. He actually was such a persuasive cult leader that he actually turned his followers into full blown marxists.

For around 50+ years politicians have promised their voter this or that.

Trump is the 1st President I have seen in my 56 years being alive that actually does what he said he was going to do.

Guess what, most of his supporters counted on that.
It is why he was elected, and why his base loves him!

Oh, I was very skeptical. Late to the train. But I couldn't be happier about being wrong.
