If you have them at your disposal, why not use them for the shittiest of tasks? VDV's have been training recruits for months now, while the Russian army has taken limited losses in the past 6 months.
Although there is zero discussion of it on the OT thread, Russia has been hammering ammo/equipment/fuel depots, troop concentrations, and air defense systems daily for the past few weeks. This is what an intelligent military should be doing and there is no doubt that it's having an impact on this impending counteroffensive. Zelensky is in full on desperation mode at this point, I can't even keep track of how many world leaders he has had to blow in the last 48 hours.
