I mean, frick all this fighting in the south, Putin should've just sent his army on an end around and just swept out of the north and taken Kyiv and ended the whole thing in a week. Surely the Ukrainian army could never stand up to the full might of the Russian army in an all-out offensive, right?

Fun? I don’t believe so. War is hell.
However, they are:
1. Using lots of conscripts…many of which are from Muslim areas that have been problematic in the past.
As an added bonus, they are using ancient equipment instead of 5th generation capabilities, and are still finding success.
2. Strengthening their ties with China, Iran, and Turkey.
3. Bleeding the US military capacity (no matter what CitzenCCP says, we aren’t “re-stocking” or getting new armament without rare Earth elements from China - which means we are beholden to the CCP).
4. Burdening the US taxpayer and dividing the population.
5. Devaluation of the US dollar (it would have happened to a degree no matter what, but this proxy war has exacerbated things).
6. Russia is still making money off of their natural resources (even if they are being sold on the cheap).
And lastly…
7. Russia is still going to get territory in the eastern half of Ukraine, the only question is how much.
TLDR…Putin is probably enjoying dealing with Biden and friends.
