Per Vox, the authoritarian concern is coming from the right. You know, the party that’s not in power.

The left always, always, always accuses the opposition of being guilty of what they’re doing.

The left is surprised when the response to their authoritarianism is authoritarianism from the right.

It’s as if they’ve never cracked a history book.

I’m interested in reading about actual authoritarianism from the right, and not the partisan issues drummed up and listed in the Vox article.

Gaslighting. They know everyone sees what they're doing so they're trying to move the target away from themselves.

The funny part is where they say decentralized power is actually BAD for democracy.

quote:

The US Constitution devolved election administration to the states, giving local legislatures control over the rules around elections and the process of actually tallying up the votes. State governments are what political scientist Phil Rocco calls “the infrastructure of democracy” — the place where the terms of political competition at the national level are set.

In theory, this should serve as a bulwark against the emergence of competitive authoritarianism, preventing one faction from rewriting the rules in their favor in one fell swoop.
Historically, Rocco points out, it’s often worked the opposite way: The decentralized system enabled the creation of Jim Crow, which turned Southern states into authoritarian enclaves marked by one-party Democratic rule for decades.

YOU SEE DECENTRALIZATION IS A DEMOCRATIC TRAIT, HERES WHY ITS BAD AND CENTRALIZATION IS GOOD.

The only way someone is able to argue for centralized government is if they believe they know what the best mode of government is and also if they're willing to silence and oppress people who disagree with their absolutism....

Makes total sense.

The left essentially owns ALL of Education, Entertainment (movies, TV and music), Sports, Publishing, and Social Media.

They're right...we're days away from A Handmaid's Tale.

Not to mention that we want a full audit to ensure the integrity of our elections.

On another note, I always get amused when someone writes an article like this and doesn't even have the guts to allow comments.

Funny how the right is authoritarian when it's in my blue state that the people voted for 30 dollar car tabs but Democrat officials called it unconstitutional. Now they are implementing an income tax that is actually unconstitutional.

Imagine if there was no EC...that would even things up.

Who needs history when you have generic phrases that always fit:

GOP does 'X'
Dems say of 'X': 'That's not who we are.'
'That is an assault on Democracy.'

What can be done about the media? Seriously, what's the smart/strategic answer here?

Merrick Garland is on CNN right now with his plan to combat "Domestic Extremism".

My assumption is that this will not address BLM or Antifa whatsoever. Only "insurgents" and "white supremacists" is my guess.

This guy is dangerous.

ETA: Follow up to the speech is an interview with Andrew McCabe. He approves. Tells me all I need to know.

ETA2: Now they are talking about how dangerous QANON posters might be.

One where there's equality for all, and everyone has their needs provided for, and no one has to go hungry, and everyone receives all the blessings the state has to offer, eh, comrade?

I think we say shite like this to make ourselves feel better about doing nothing. If the Right won't take matters into its own hands when morons like Fauci and Cuomo lock businesses, churches and schools up for a virus no more lethal than the annual flu for 90% of us outside of nursing homes, the Right will never take matters into its own hands. We either get our political/economic shite together and start using those "weapons" or we're permanent losers.

Sorry, but there is no moral equivalency here.

We watched months of actual, fiery violence from the far left all across the nation, and the word in fact. They ran roughshod over everyone and everything.

Now think for a second...if there was some authoritarian right wing out there looking for a fight, would this not have been the PERFECT time for them to rise up and oppose the left in the streets? Why not after a week or so were there not right wing militias lined up across from the left every time they took to the streets and began destroying whole swaths of neighborhoods and terrorizing Americans? The couple of times the Proud Boys showed up anywhere, them being there was more of a story than the actual riots!

There was ONE DAY where a handful of people got out of hand from the right. Despite them having ample opportunities to destroy things in the Capitol, they did not. There were no fires, no explosions, no fireworks, and no firearms. And even so, the only live round fired after nearly a year of riots was fired at a person from the right...who was unarmed. Imagine the same day taking place...but Trump's electors being certified, and the left in DC to cause trouble. Imagine them making into The Capitol and NOT causing damage. Imagine a leftist protester gunned down unarmed by a Capitol LEO, and then imagine never finding out his name.

We need to be comfortable calling a spade a spade. The left is completely out of control at this point. The right is not a pimple on the arse of the left's desire to cause actual mayhem.
