My general opinion on the war crime thing is that if we are just like the enemy then why are we fighting them? My opinion on this specific case could swing either way depending on what the guy is accused of.

it’s sad, you see this play out at the macro level here and with Hamas vs Israel…and even here at a micro level with criminals vs law enforcement
when the other side are terrorists and criminals and you allow them to literally get away with murder, but then villainize response back, break down every decision down to the millisecond and armchair quarterback every move, and allow those on the front lines to be overcharged you lose all societal and institutional trust
it’s not that mistakes aren’t made in war or on the streets with law enforcement, but we’ve just gone way overboard in protection of terrorists and criminals who weapons and use our own standard against us and you have sympathetic media who buy into it and politicians who use it for political purposes
