AT&T’s defense against Starlink was simple: satellites can’t penetrate walls

SpaceX’s acquisition of 800 MHz spectrum stretches the wavelength to 37.5 cm. Attenuation drops to 8–12 dB, and diffraction around structural frames scales with wavelength.

I think the game didn’t just change. It ended

It does not carry as much data, but it travels farther and gets through walls. That is why regular carriers use low-band for basic coverage.

Put them together and a phone can stay connected almost anywhere in the US, then jump to the faster band when the path is clear. Add the Gen2 satellites and this starts looking like a real mobile network, not just satellite texting. Still needs FCC approval, but this is the coverage layer that makes the whole plan work.

I can see the message now. "You need to be outside with a clear site to our satellites to use data."

ATT and Verizon can’t even penetrate my neighborhood anymore.

Have to get on wifi calling just to be connected.

I’d be willing to try StarLink just because Verizon and Att do not even care about where you can’t get their service.

You do realize that Starlink will always have to hand off to a terrestrial tower when inside right? Even 800 mhz won't reliably penetrate some buildings, definitely not mine that has a metal roof and walls. StarLink will have to partner with current carriers until they build their on ground network in addition to their current data gateways that the sats work with now.

All carriers will have to drop prices to keep customers. Even then with this newest info Starlink will be better service. And no need to tear up ground to install fiber optic.

I recall many local homeowners having yards dug into and driveways cut under by ATT installing fiber and so many had problems with driveways cracking/sinking and sued them. ATT used contractors and fought every claim. People were pissed. Fast forward and I promise if this Starlink works they will cancel ATT in a heartbeat.

I'll drop AT&T in a quick second if something else comes along that works. Just like others have mentioned, my phone would be useless without wifi at home. I get zero reception in my neighborhood, and AT&T doesn't give one shite. They charge out the arse for this at the same time.

Once Elon gets the kinks worked out, it’s over for Verizon and AT&T. I will not miss them

The coolest strategy I read was StarLink will pay you to put a microcell at your house. This is basically a crowd sourced cell network instead of using traditional "big iron" towers. You would have just another panel like the current StarLink data dish to plug in and get a deep discount on your Starlink data dish for allowing it.

Gen 5 dishes will already have it integrated and you won't need 2 separate dishes.

SPCX market cap = 2.1 Trillion

T market cap = 0.15 Trillion

It might be way easier to buy AT&T outright than to build a terrestrial core network from scratch.

They plan on offering by late 2027 so will likely start with leasing tower space and then move to that crowd sourcing method I mentioned in my post above.

Should not be long before beaming up to Star Ships or making travel to destinations instantly with their abilities

It works when cell towers go out.

It would be nice if prices would be more reasonable...They've gotten ridiculous over the years.
