The small town I live in, Arcadia, has now enacted an 830pm curfew in which all businesses, regardless of being essential like grocery stores and gas stations, must close and only "essential personnel" are allowed on the streets without being questioned by the police.

Is this even legal? Does a town mayor have the power to do this?

BTW, we've only had 2 confirmed cases in our entire PARISH

These little tiny towns are cracking me up with this shite. It's not like the outlet mall is open.

If the cops don’t question then who cares.

Yes. Anything is enforceable if you have enough blind jackboot uniformed thugs to do you bidding

Bonnie and Clyde would never go for it. They'd shoot their way out if need be.

With restaurants closed, I don't think there's anything.

I usually don't eat dinner until after the baby goes to sleep so I went into town to hit up the Sonic and there was a sign "Closed due to city curfew." Same with the gas station that's open 24 hours a day.

It's freaking insanity.

It may not be. But who wants to sit in jail for three months to find out?

Now is the time for you to rally up some folks and overthrow the Arcadia police department. It's probably only like what...5 officers?

The genius of these curfews is that the same cities are letting people out of jail and not enforcing a myriad of serious crimes to avoid police contact like robberies and assaults

And the one thing they are going to enforce is Joe Blow driving down the road at the wrong time?

Its so fricking pathetic but hilarious at the same time

The priorities are absolutely apeshit

I have seriously thought about the logistics of the closed golf courses. I could get on the property easily with clubs. I couldn't get a cart but could walk. How would they catch me?
If they did: 'What are you doing here?'
Me: 'Playing golf'.
Them: 'It's against the law.'
Me: 'OK. Can I go pick up my ball?'

That only leaves him assembling 3 others to stay under the 10 person limit by the governor though.

Curfews have been declared here in Georgia. Yes, they are legal.

Our order is 7 pages long and cites its authority from the relevant sections of the County Code and Official Code Of Georgia.

I assume your locale would follow similar procedures.

I’m giving a legal response. You want an emotional response.

I know you don’t like that it’s legal but your dislike does not make it illegal.

You have to change the law. Or file a constitutional challenge in court. You will probably lose that last route, however, as courts have tended to give government broad discretion in emergencies. This is nothing new. The trend has been moving such a way since the early 1900s.
