Yea, the newly released can apply for high paying Amazon jobs in AOC's district.
Oh wait

Newsflash: we are the third most populated country in the world. Do you think China and India provide accurate incarceration numbers?

Well T CAN agree with this...
Secondly, our prison & jail system is so large bc we use them as de facto mental hospitals, homeless shelters, & detox centers.....
Everything else she wrote I disagree with

prison abolition
I could be down with this as long as the alternative is an eye for an eye with a long list of crimes subject to capital punishment.

Do they serve babies in prison?
Posted on 10/7/19 at 7:03 pm to Thunder
I agree with Thunder to a degree. I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with AOC on anything but if you actually get beyond the click bait stuff, I think she has a point - although it needs the filter of reality.
Prisons are a necessary tough part of life but the goal should be to have as few prisons and prisoners as possible. I’d love to know what the numbers actually are but I know the public cost of entitlement programs and the public cost of incarceration are astronomical and dominated by the self interested. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were close and/or if incarceration costs are actually higher than entitlements. Again have no idea but would love to know if anyone has the data.
Mental illness, serving a just debt to society, rehabilitation, and repentance with evaluation and focus on ability to contribute society seem largely disregarded when talking about crime and punishment in this and every country.

I get what she's saying, that we should cut down on our prison population such as non violent drug offenders and send them to rehab instead but wow she fricked up by saying abolition
Posted on 10/7/19 at 7:16 pm to TrueTiger
She wasn't calling for complete abolition sounds more like reform.

Thank the welfare state that Dems created for this

We do put too many people in prison but stupid stuff like marijuana but we will always need prisons for violent criminals.
Wat..... I think i get what your saying but damn..... Thats what I'm sayin people who steal and rob and break into houses hell yea put them on jail.... But the guy busted for pot ... Like my daughter being dragged to jail for half a joint and having to bail out in Vernon fricking parish and costing her $3000 really makes me not think with a sane mentality

I think she baited you guys with the phrase "prison abolition" so you'd return back to being against decrimilination of victimless crimes and against removing the influence of cash.
I have no idea how to do any of that without a bunch of unintended consequences but i you fell right into the trap narrative she set for you.
She didn't bait shite. Abolition means getting rid of something. Those words she used by definition means no more prisons at all. She's just an idiot and should've used different words if that's not what she meant.

She shouldn't have used those words then. Not other people's fault she's retarded

The problem is liberals lump in all non-violent criminals together while ignoring that those who commit theft, burglary, etc. are shite bags that need to be behind bars. Property crime is out of control in major metro areas right now.
Posted on 10/7/19 at 7:57 pm to NIH
Liberals just view property crime as a couple less steps they have to take with taking your shite and giving it to someone that didn't earn it. They view theft as Noble and just and they support keeping thieves on the streets.
Posted on 10/7/19 at 7:59 pm to NIH
The whine about pot incarceration but forget to mention many of those have gun charges.
Posted on 10/7/19 at 8:02 pm to roadGator
Yeah there are absolutely zero people in the US locked up in real prison for one simple misdemeanor marijuana possession. They lie their arse off about that just like everything else

Oh I agree but people need to at least read more. She's very clearly not calling for what the op claims
