Tesla is a good second car option.
Yes, as a second vehicle, I can see the reasoning. But speaking for many, I will never give up my internal combustion engine cars...

Just bought a Model 3 with the self drive feature. 24k. Best purchase I’ve made. Really enjoying it.

Heck of a price. Found it online?

Nah I'm looking at the new rivians though. I prefer SUVs or a truck to a sedan/coup

I love cars.
I love motorcycles.
I love anything with an engine.
And I love Teslas. I have owned several of them. But, as I have said before - it’s not because I am doing anything for the environment.
I need a dependable daily driver that I can use around town and never have to maintain. It’s like a cell phone. Just plug it in.
I love working on my bikes and my classic cars. That is fun.
But paying for someone else to work on my daily driver or (even worse) wasting time doing it myself?
Not a chance.

my BIL has one and loves it

I would like to, but I need more space for kids and DIY yard stuff. The cyber truck would probably work, but I couldn't justify the price. A few co-workers have Teslas. They are great cars.

No way in hell. It's not practical at all. The inconvenience of plugging it in for hours for a full charge outweighs any positives you may get from it.

There are quite a few pros to owning and Tesla and this is the only con. That’s only if you plan to road trip in the Tesla often which max it would take about 35-40 mins to full charge from zero.
But as a daily driver, you just plug it in every night or few nights and you wake up with a full charge. They’re so much fun to drive, you’re missing out

I bought my wife one a few weeks ago. It’s a great car, fun to drive. Plugging it in Hasn’t been a big deal at all, we literally plug it into a garage outlet a few nights a week. Doing a road trip next week in it.

Huh? The Long Range Model 3 is $35K after the $7500 rebate, plus they are doing 0% APR right now. How is this expensive?
Point taken, but a base model 2025 Camry LE, which is a hybrid, can be had for 28k or lower, will get you 500 miles on a tank for sure, and will hold its value and last for years with minimal upkeep.
There is room for a Tesla for many people…but it’s still not at a level for most people to experiment on.

No. Why would I ever want an electric vehicle? Besides, in what context are they a good value?

Vs aren’t practical if you take road trips over long distances. I have friends in Colorado that I go visit sometimes. Not about to hunt for charging stations all across the countryside, that’s silly.
What % of your car trips happen within 30-50 miles of your home? 95%?99%?

I have a daily commute that is around 140 miles round trip.
The idea that of someone not wanting to “deal with the hassle of charging” is the most comical objection.
With a Tesla I think about “refueling” my car infinitely less than I ever did with my gas car.
I get home, park in the garage. I plug it in, in less than 3 seconds. I quite literally never think about “refueling”.
Compared to when I had was making that commute in a Honda civic. Stopping to get gas 2-3 times per week. Having to THINK about strategically getting gas ahead of time because if I forgot I would need to stop in the morning rush to fuel up. “Oh I’m out getting groceries better pull up and get gas so I don’t have to in the morning” that is 1000% more inconvenient than a Tesla. When you have a Tesla you leave your home default with a full tank daily. When you drive gas you default to a non full tank daily.
Having to think about oil changes every couple months because I burn miles quickly.
Unless you are literally driving beyond 300 miles everyday the whole “I don’t want to deal with slow charging” is something that only folks who have never owned a Tesla would say. It’s just not a rational objection.
If I get home by 5pm my car is fully charged by 10pm. I am not going anywhere for at least 2-3 hours. Dinner, kids, etc.
If i need to run out somewhere at 6 or 7pm I have over 200 miles of range at that point. Publix is 6 miles away. I’m good. By God if I just get a wild hair up my arse that day and I need to drive 300 miles NOWWWWW on a random Tuesday night after work I can hit a super charger and be good to go in 20 minutes watching YouTube in my car.
I could chop off both hands and be able to count the amount of times I needed to do that.
There are plenty of reasons someone might not want a Tesla. The objection of charging speed for anyone that owns a home to charge at is absolutely foolish.
