If you’re a real libertarian you have to take the good with the bad. So that includes abortion, freedom of religion, gay marriage, legalization of drugs, open borders, outsourcing labor and whatever else

A "real" libertarian is someone who wishes to make no imposition one way or another of such laws on a national level, but is quite content to let localities decide just exactly kind of laws they want to have in place.

Welcome aboard.

Anyone ever notice that nearly all of the angst in society is in the areas where government has the most control?

This isn't a coincidence.

"As long as it is admitted that the law may be diverted from its true purpose — that it may violate property instead of protecting it — then everyone will want to participate in making the law, either to protect himself against plunder or to use it for plunder. Political questions will always be prejudicial, dominant, and all-absorbing. There will be fighting at the door of the Legislative Palace, and the struggle within will be no less furious."- Frederic Batiat, OG libertarian

Those are the areas that are most expensive. Healthcare, Housing, College, Construction...

No, I’m becoming more anti-Marxist, and I’m voting for Trump

Abortion is one of the most hotly contested issues among "real" libertarians. I'm not sure why people think that's a settled issue for us.

Nope, but that’s not what the media would have you believe. My point is though there are a lot of people who say they are libertarian, and then want to turn around and ban a bunch of shite. Not how it works.

That too. Politicians are experts at destroying market signals.

There's been quite a cultural divide that's happened in the past decade or so, too. Eventually I imagine we will start using different terminology.

I’m not a libertarian so I wouldn’t really know. I am pro life but I think if you want to maximize personal freedom, abortion should be legal.

No one has provided me with a libertarian definition of open boarders, yet.

My libertarian friends and I are OK with the approximate 1M visas issued to enter the USA legally a year. We are not OK with illegal immigration.

Is that not the libertarian perspective on open boarders? My libertarian meetings might be on a different day.

I was a libertarian for like a year out of high school.

Then I grew up.

It's the most childish ideology there is. It's also super common in college-aged people where they are experiencing their first years 'on their own,' yet still financially tethered to their parents.

Hilarious.

What's childlike is having religious like faith in politicians to "fix problems". How many more failures of government do you need before you realize this?

Meh, most of the fights are over where we start the argument. Take abortion for example.

If you believe the fetus is a full person with all the rights of full personhood, then you're probably pro-life. If you believe the fetus isn't a full person with all the rights of full personhood, then you're probably pro-choice.

Which is why I think both sides of the "murder is wrong/women control their bodies" debate are dishonest morons. Both beg the question.

And on that note, the more time has gone on, the more I like Walter Block's evictionist position.

I've leaned pretty libertarian for 20 years but I don't typically support the Libertarian party candidates. A few of their ideas are a bit out there for me. I align pretty closely with someone like Rand Paul politically.
