First they come for tour ventilators.

Then they come for your guns.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.

Are you serious - the right to assembly- the right to keep a business open - the right of free speech - the right to walk in a park

The leftests on this board are the dumbest people on the place of the earth - please go out and hang out in Walmart and grocery stores the next few weeks - lick a few carts - the world will be a better place

What about the 60 year old who has asthma. Don’t they deserve life and liberty and the right to pursue happiness? This is what it takes to give them that chance. If they die because you just had to go buy a new tv at Walmart, and you accidentally infected them while they were trying to buy bread and milk, how is that fair?

So the entire country has to bow to the needs of a 60year old asthmatic? That’s not how it works buddy. It’s The high risk persons responsibility to take precautions to protect their body. They have a choice, arrange for groceries to be delivered and take disinfection precaution or risk letting Darwinism take control.

It’s like catering to the dang weirdos that identify as an opposite sex, why does everyone else need to be subjected to rules that apply to 0.5% of the population?

The majority wins!

Could be?

Yes.

My point was, things could be going just as bad if there weren't shutdowns (sorry I bolded the wrong word ).
This pandemic is international, and the media would still be blaring it out daily. People would be falling ill in places, and then suddenly there'd be panic and ZERO trust in the government, due to lack of apparent concern over the people. You'd have riots in some cities (we know the usual suspects), and lots of call-in/no-shows as people say "frick this, I'm not catching this".

Revelator, I'm not fighting with you, and I do understand your point.

But we don't live in a vaccuum, people have tvs and social media. Every other country in the world is shutting down to some extent or other to combat this. I see it, you see it.

Trump had to do something, or else every single death becomes 'his fault' due to failure to act. For political purposes alone, he had to act. Surely you see that.

I think he's been able to get ahead of this, and has turned a political disaster into a political plus. I believe most of the nation has been satisfied and impressed with his press conferences. Obviously the goal is to return to normal life, but if we do that before the elections, he wins that in a landslide.

Stay safe, and just try to bear with this. By all means, keep a running tally of rights that aren't restored when this passes. I'm supportive of you with that. But it's been less than a month since the shutdown started, and the hospitals are still in emergency-mode for a surge of patients.

If it was a hurricane and you feared for your safety driving, people wouldn't want to be out. If there were packs of zombies wandering around, people wouldn't want to be out. Instead, things LOOK normal, and the weather is beautiful. Lots of people think everything is ok, hence the frustration.

Well, I agree.

But in an emergency (such as a contagious disease outbreak), you do have to act accordingly.

It's common sense to limit crowds and close contact. It's not beyond reason to ask/suggest people to do that, for public safety, until they can get a handle on this. You'd like to think people would act smart, for their own benefit and in consideration of others.
We've seen quite a few that absolutely WON'T do this voluntarily. They refuse, become indignant, and put others at risk.

People complaining about "loss of freedom"... suppose you act smart and safe, but end up with a loved one sick/dead because of some a-hole who doesn't? We may yet see "frontier justice" enacted upon those, if there's some worsening of the outbreak. I hope it doesn't occur, but I could see it happening.

I think most folks were placated by Trump's Easter goal. If it goes much longer than that, I think you'll see people's patience quickly begin to fade away.

The thing is, there is no provision for the suspension of Constitutional rights outside of maybe martial law. I think many of those most upset about the more authoritarian aspects of the government’s response to this shitshow, are those who have been deluding themselves into believing that we actually have the kind of freedom in this country that most probably think we do.

What we are seeing is the uninformed, complacent, and probably even some leftists, coming to the realization that we have too much ducking government, that wields entirely too much power over the people. The uninformed and complacent believe that We the People still control the government, and demand the sanctity and preservation of our Constitutional rights. Then something like this comes along, and it is no longer possible to maintain that illusion.

The only answer is a much smaller, much less powerful federal and even state governments. Unfortunately at this point, the only way that happens is collapse, and revolution, which is inevitable eventually.

Sorry, but the media and politicians no longer should be given the benefit of the doubt when they tell us to do something and it’s for our own good. These are the same people who lie about practically everything. These are the same people who claim if we don’t pass a Green New Deal in 9 years, we will all be dead. These are the same people who said Y2K was going to be a nationwide disaster. These are the same people who want to take away guns from every citizen when there is a school shooting in a gun free zone.
Sorry, you can believe and trust them, they’ve burned that bridge with me a long time ago.

The most destructive thing that’s happened to America in the past 30-40 years is the revelation that many people in our government and the MSM are lacking integrity, honor snd moral character...... our faith in the institutions that were foundational in what made this country a force for good and unique from all countries is gone and I’m not sure how or if it can ever be restored.

Isn’t the 2A argument based on defending the public from a tyrant government? I 100% think that’s what the founding fathers were thinking. I get what they were thinking at the time they put it ink.
