At the outbreak of the Civil War, Wheat returned to New Orleans. Financed by backers of his previous Nicaragua adventures, he scoured the wharves of New Orleans to organize what became known as "Wheat's Special Battalion", or the "Louisiana Tigers", a hard fighting, hard living unit that performed well on the battlefield but was renowned for its lack of discipline. The battalion, which numbered 500 men, consisted of immigrants from Ireland and Germany, as well as natives of New Orleans. Most of the men were "street toughs". They were generally considered to be at the "bottom of the barrel" socially. They were very loyal to Wheat, who was a charismatic and remarkably humble leader of men.

Sounds about right.

National media calling LSU racist? Boycotting?

Ole Miss had fictional character as a mascot. LSU's mascot has history.

It wouldn't bother me at all if people who got pissed about nonsense like this stopped going to LSU.

But people like that can't let things be.

Can I get a link or source for this image?

Methinks you created it and are pushing fake news to advance an agenda.

This is the Thought Police from 1984 in real life..if the Dems come back any time soon and take power we will end up having to shoot the whole bunch, or they will have us in chains.

If true it's about the Civil war and not the animal.

Seems that the left is going to slowly but surely wipe out any reference to the Confederacy in any public forum.

The lady in GA seemingly followed the mayor of BR. These things go in waves. It's just getting started.

I know you guys have been hoping and praying that someone would try to change the Tiger's nickname for a long time so that you can have another thing to bitch about to justify your victim complex. I hate to disappoint you, but it's not happening.

The Tigers are not named after a confederate unit. Louisiana volunteer units have used the nickname "Tigers" since well before and well after the civil war. Our tiger logo (not toonces, but the real logo) is based on the logo of the Battalion Washington Artillery. That logo was for sure in use for the Mexican American War well before the civil war (and probably long before that too).

I'm willing to bet the house you just threw that Meme together.

A simple Google search shows there's no movement against this and it has no legs at all.

They'll succeed as long as people are fat and comfortable.

If hard times come again and the fed gov tap dries up, people's real feelings are going to turn into real actions and this shite will stop.
