quote:

The House is set to vote on legislation that would extend the deadlines for federal funding to March 8 and March 22, part of an agreement struck Wednesday between House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) to prevent a shutdown that would otherwise shutter about 20 percent of the federal government just after the stroke of midnight Saturday.

quote:

The funding bill the House will vote on Thursday is designed to give lawmakers more time to finalize annual spending bills, or appropriations legislation. But it first must pass through an unusual process in the lower chamber that leaves it vulnerable to far-right Republicans who oppose the measure.

Without the support of a majority of the House GOP, the party’s rules say Johnson should not bring the vote to the floor. The last stopgap funding bill the House passed achieved that majority by just a single vote. And if the measure does have enough Republican support, it still also needs a two-thirds majority of the chamber to pass under a process that suspends normal procedural rules.

Why? This country can easily run with 60% of fedgov shut down, and even more. It's not a state government shutdown.

They just make sure old people and national parks get hit hardest and their corporate media partners will scream 24/7 about GOP trying to starve grandma.

If any other business failed to put together a budget without nearly 30 years of kicking the can down the road, they would have failed a LONG time ago.

Bannon had Chip Roy on just now.

He said it’s all about funding Ukraine. That is all they are worried about.

Won’t be long until they just set up a recurring increase to the guvment, where no one has to know. Like a draft of your car note.
Instead of hearing about the “fight” we can just be bent over every few months without being told.
Much like the insurance companies currently do.

I don't think I've seen a single person here or elsewhere that had any faith they would do anything with the budget other than kick the can down the road with more CR's.

No more money for Ukraine.
Shut the govt down. Maybe the citizens will just start manning the border.

The only sliver of good news here is that no money is being appropriated for foreign countries. Assuming they don't slide that into the CR.

It's horrible that the government can't create a budget and stick with it. It removes any accountability checks in place.

The government NEEDS to be shut down. Besides, a shutdown isn't like it sounds....

quote:

In a “shutdown,” federal agencies must discontinue all non-essential discretionary functions until new funding legislation is passed and signed into law. Essential services continue to function, as do mandatory spending programs

Seems like they are bringing up these "resolutions" every quarter? Is that normal?

Shut it down until the border is closed to illegal migrants and a real budget is passed.
