so the only alternative to working the fields in 100+ degree heat is hanging out at a country club?
Tell us more about how you feel sorry for murderers and rapists

Look I’m pretty conservative from a sentencing standpoint, but working guys in conditions where they are likely to pass out from the heat seems pretty inhumane to me.
The military used to do it on a regular basis. Went through Jungle Warfare School with some guys from the 10th Mountain in January and they had a bunch drop the first few days, because going from Ft Drum in January to Panama is a kick in the nuts.

Everyone at Angola is serving a sentence “at hard labor.” A felony conviction in Louisiana carries with it a sentence of a term of years at hard labor. If you find this concept too harsh, then take it up with the legislature.

fwiw, I've heard from a LEO that the place is severely corrupt.
I’d bet that 100% of jails and prisons in America are corrupt. Prison populations did skyrocket after the 13th amendment was ratified. Coincidence?

The constitution does not confer a right to comfortable prisons
This is stupid. I did not advocate for “comfort” in my answer. But reading comprehension may not be your strong suit. I spoke concerning the 8th Amendment solely, and justified my answer with practices inconsistent with the Constitution.

Let’s talk about the Eighth Amendment then. You say it prohibits “inhumane conditions.” That’s interesting to me. First, what makes a prison “inhumane”? Can you even define that? Second, let’s talk about prison conditions in the 1780s when the amendment was ratified.

Because you are. Your entire argument is that violent felons should not have to perform hard labor because of your feelings and shite.

Can you please quote my post that includes the words “violent felons”? Thanks.

Only violent felons get sent to Angola since it’s considered a maximum security facility.

What do you think people are serving time in Angola for, jaywalking?

We had record heat for an extended period of time. Yes, they are inmates, but you still must take precautions from the heat. I’m not saying coddle them, but I do hope the prison was making sure they weren’t out there all day with no shade breaks and proper hydration. No clue if they were or weren’t, just saying. You’re supposed to work them, not put them in danger. Criminal or not.
