Soros non-profits doing work.

Edit: Most of the inmates prefer working out in the fields to being locked away.

so the only alternative to working the fields in 100+ degree heat is hanging out at a country club?

Look I’m pretty conservative from a sentencing standpoint, but working guys in conditions where they are likely to pass out from the heat seems pretty inhumane to me.

Putting people to work is fine, working them to the point that they need medical attention is not.

Except that’s not what’s going on, not even close. The inmates volunteer to work in the fields. This is more leftist lawfare from the MacArthur Justice Center and the SPLC.

you can’t be serious.

They volunteer to work fields while an armed guard on horseback points a rifle at them?

I know prisoners will not receive sentiment from most people on here, but some of our prisons (Angola included) have very inhumane conditions.

Real constitutionalists can articulate these issues effectively without wanting to “free all the prisoners” … the 8th Amendment is still applicable law.

Food for thought*
Considering Louisiana just passed unanimous jury verdict laws in 2018 (whilst refusing to review unconstitutional verdicts 10-2, 11-1) this post is quite authoritarian..

I absolutely am. They have to volunteer for that work. Otherwise they are assigned less desirable jobs inside the prison system.

They absolutely volunteer, there's a waiting list to get out of there and work.

The constitution does not confer a right to comfortable prisons.

Should have thought of the possibility of harsh conditions when they were committing their crimes.

Not at all. I know plenty of people who spent decades in Angola. But I’m sure you know better than they do.

Right, because mentally ill people are known for their great decision-making skills. Same for drug addicts.

They obviously know right from wrong, or else they wouldn’t be competent to stand trial.

sure.

Have you ever interacted with someone whose spent time in Angola? It looks like you haven’t. But I don’t want to make any assumptions.

Is a country club and working in dangerous conditions the only two options?

fwiw, I've heard from a LEO that the place is severely corrupt. Not sure it that means the warden is getting rich off the cattle they raise or what.
