At the per-person figure of greater than $300k, the moment disbursements are made ALL black Americans become twice as wealthy as the median white head of household. That is not economic equivalence, that is supremacy.

Reparations are not a popular idea nationwide to begin with (1 in 5 per the Reuters poll of yesterday). Inevitably the in-favor group would splinter immensely once it comes down to the actual calculus. This is a concept that is only effective in political discourse when it doesn't have numbers attached to it.

FYI, that's about $330,000 per black citizen.

If you read what he said (and I'm not for it so don't misunderstand me) here is his idea in a nutshell:

1. The only people that would be approved for reparations would be those that could trace their lineage back to slavery, approximately 40 million people. Just over 7 million black Americans wouldn't get anything because they came here through other means.

2. The checks would be paid out between $10,000 - $11,000 annually for 30 years, a total of $350,000 per person. This number was arrived at by comparing the median net worth of white people ($350,000) to the median net worth of black people ($30,000).

3. The money for reparations would come from a new tax. The amount that you pay would be based on your income, with wealthier people paying the most and poorer people not paying as much. There are 170 million taxpayers in America, so this works out to just over $2900 per year per person, but most wouldn't pay that much. However, every eligible taxpayer would pay something, including black people.

4. White people need to ask black people for forgiveness. He believes that every dollar of wealth in America can be traced back to slavery.

It's wild stuff, but not quite as wild as handing black people a $500,000 check. Basically, this would be a new form of a welfare check, paid out monthly, much like the current system.

Exactly!! I'm part Cajun but I'm mostly Irish. I think England/UK owes me two checks.

One for kicking my people out of Nova Scotia, then starving out my people in Ireland. My Irish people had to PAY for their trip over here. And I have my proof from where my ancestors came from.

Also, if they are descendants of slaves AND slave owners - shouldn't that cancel out or something. My ancestors didn't own slaves, so why should I pay a special tax?

I say give it to them but on 1 condition: load your asses on a boat and go back to the motha land.
