It’s a good point, and true Libertarians should take note. Sadly, it appears as though most Libertarians are perfectly fine with Democrats winning the next election.

Swing and a miss pork chop. Caplewood’s dream country is probably pretty close to The Man in the High Castle from what I gather
I mean read the article FFS

Libertarianism is conservatism taken to its logical conclusion. While it is unworkable in our current world (especially open borders), we should be working towards changing our world to make it more resemblant of that that libertarian ideal. We cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good, but we should still strive towards perfection rather than chastise it.

The problem for us conservative citizens in today's America is we are unrepresented. I believe there are still quite a many true conservatives in the general population but there are precious few if any in government. I'm not sure that gets any better as the years go by, in fact I suspect it's likely to get worse

Modern libertarianism just is conservatism 25 years ago sans weed and seed

I'm assuming you can expound upon why you think so. Maybe with a few points or some context? I'll gladly debate you on this. Break it down in bullet points and we can go through each of your arguments.

Did you even read the article I posted
I did. And what I'm telling you and the author of the article, is shite on republicans, not conservatism. Conservatism wins in the arena of ideas, every fricking time. Conservatism isn't dead. Conservatism's problem is people who are decidedly NOT conservative, claiming the mantle of conservatism for their benefit. Look at some of the posts in this thread. Look at the giant picture of Mitt Romney, being associated with "conservative."

This. However, i think there is also a problem of conservatives not being pragmatic either. I consider myself to be conservative, however, you have to be able to get your ideals through, and enact legislation based on those ideals, and to get those through, sadly, you have to compromise. And i hate that word, because compromise from the media means fully capitulate to the left. That's not the compromise i'm talking about.
Take, for example, Rand Paul. I think he is one of the most conservative politician out there. And as one said, he wins in the arena of ideas. Everything he says, is hard to be refuted. And i agree with 99.99% of what he says...However, he flopped badly in the 2016 election. IMO, he was too focused on conservatism, and not about on getting elected. Which again, i don't disagree with him. I think each candidate should state exactly what they believe and what they will do while in office, with no equivocations. However, that's not what it takes to get elected as POTUS. And sadly, not enough voters are smart enough to understand the freedom of conservatism. One of Rand's faults during the debates was jumping up and down anytime Trump or anyone else said something that wasn't 100% conservative. And i believe, it cost him his chance.
I will vote Trump over anyone the left puts against him, any day of the week. In the end, i think Trump is great for the growth of the economy, but not necessarily great for the shrinking of the government. Trump is not a conservative, and he never pretended to be. He has made some much needed rollbacks of regulation and cut backs on taxes, but in order to veer the ship from the future iceberg we are on course to hit, we need a true common sense conservative at the helm. I just don't think there is a conservative in the current political arena that also has the personality to get elected as POTUS.

Conservative ideas beat out liberal ideas any day of the week, when practiced. However, conservatism requires a modicum of intelligence, and the media, the Dems, the liberals, and the GOPe are relying on the lowest common denominator.

The implication of this is that democracy with universal suffrage will inevitably turn to the left.

Context? Really?
20 FRICKING YEARS AGO we bent over and let the government raw dog the patriot act up our asses and NOW we stand up?
Too late. Too many "conservatives" are worried about their retirements, their 401ks, their cog in the wheel jobs, crumbs from the table, and to be "left alone"
Than to legitimately stand up and sacrifice themselves for their kids and grandkids
Aka PUSSIES
Want proof, ask yourself how fast you wanted to type the phrase "you first"

Not many conservatives on this board any more. Most who claimed to be "conservative" have sold out to Trump, who is far, far, far from being conservative.
Posted on 7/31/20 at 12:44 pm to Caplewood
As long as conservatives accept the fundamental principles of progressives, and they do, they will be on their heels I think. Can bitch about libertarianism all you want, but if conservatives were as libertarian as they seem to think they are or have been, I think they would’ve already parted ways with progressives politically. I want to be as disassociated from progressives as I want to be from Europeans or anyone else. I don’t want taxes going to them, I don’t want them voting on things that affect me, etc. But no, conservatives dream of ruling the country too, just like the progressives, so they’re not ready to disassociate just yet I guess. Ultimately, the chance to rule is more important than conserving what’s supposedly so important to the conservatives.

If this is conservatism, then we may be inclined to say, let the conservatives keep it. Perhaps the time has come for patriotic Americans tired of the Left desecrating all they hold dear to go beyond conservatism?
Good. Get out and take your half-baked ideas with you. You had fun poking at the left, but you can only do that so long.

Without rulership, there will be no conservation.
Hell, there is little to conserve at this point. Which is why right-leaning individuals are becoming more reactionary/counter-revolutionary than anything else. You see it on this board.

The party needs a hostile takeover or total demolition. RINOs will give the country away for a few bucks and a seat at the table of political elites.
In fact, they already are.
