Trump. I am firmly in the Elon/Sacks/Vivek tech-right camp just given my education and industry background, but do know that not everyone here is onboard with the tech-right agenda right now. But the good thing among the Republicans is that at least there is a vigorous debate right now that is shining light on the issue, but with the Dems, any open debate would have been squashed.

Anecdotally, I saw a wild swing to the right among all my immigrant friends this last election given where the country was headed (away from meritocracy). What happened in Harris County in Texas was not an accident. I was part of such a community that shifted hard to the right and saw the vibe shift first hand sometime between 2022 and 2024.

I'm fully onboard with the o1 visa's. We need a COMPLETE overhaul of the H1B if not just getting rid of it.

100% bullshite.

The majority of them do and are humbled to have opportunity to engage the blessings this country provides.

Depends on the area, really.
Red controlled red, or red controlled purple areas like where I live now... Yeah. There's some that are appreciative. Especially down in Little Mexico in Independence.

When I lived in NJ, not so much. Most of them were too busy being pissed off at Democrat government.

What bothers me about H1B isn’t the high paying jobs being taken but the entry level and/or blue collar jobs being taken.

Would love to hear what entry level jobs are being taken by H1Bs...

I've dealt with people being on H1Bs and the process is a bitch and very expensive with lawyers involved an all.

Creating a job description, justifying salary, proving can't find a local person to fill the role, and then of course the roughly $8k for sponsorship.

Not to mention, there is a cap on H1Bs. Its not like every Tom, Dick, and Harry can't get an H1B.

Hilarious watching how out of proportion this has been blown.

That's not clear, were these US federal aid loans or private loans?

Who paid for you while you were in university.

I took a loan from a bank in the country of my birth. My graduate research assistantship paid me while I was a the university.

Again unclear, did you get graduate assistantship after your first semester or were there 8 semesters of loans.

The loan was for the first semester tuition. I attended 2-1/2 years of grad school or 5 semesters in total. The graduate assistantship paid for semesters 2-5 (4 semesters total). This is very typical of engineering graduate students. Nothing special or out of the ordinary.

Just giving you a hard time. I appreciate the response.

In so many words, You are not the drones, we are looking for.

I honestly think most Americans would be ok with immigration(even some illegal) if the illegals put the work in.

Huh? Who gives a shite? Do you even understand my question?

Do you think our country is better or worse if we add people that are doing better than the average American?

Now consider another alternative. Do you think our country would be doing better or worse if we add people that are doing much worse than the average American?

Was this the same for your wife? Did she also come here after completing her undergrad in the country? (same country?)

Did either of you have credit in that country?

You were admittedly jobless, is it common for banks in that country to give the unemployed who have left the country loans? (it would make it easier if you just mentioned the country lol)

As you couldn't start paying it back for almost 3 years, were the payments deferred?

Did you know you both were going to get GA when you left?

Did the bank expect to give you more loans?

This is definitely out of the ordinary, no American Citizen would get such odd loans unless their parents put up the credit/collateral.

Keep the cap on all work visas, IMO.

I have no questions. If all that is true...that is the immigration system working. The US is a better place because of folks like you...but there are nuances and some of the criticism of H1B visa program is valid.

Is it? Did he invent anything? Did he do anything an American given the same opportunity in education would not?

Are you trying to say it's someone else's fault that white men aren't enrolling in graudate and doctoral programs? This is an example of the culture problem that Vivek is actually talking about.

Ah downvote but no response. Typical low IQ behavior. My point is proven.

He probably pays taxes and obeys the law. What else do you expect from people? And most Americans had the same opportunity and yet he outperformed 94% of them, so that points back to the culture problem referenced.

I just dont believe in this zero sum game. I think capable people will succeed. If one door is closed to them, they will find another door.

What I dont support is immigrants getting preferential treatment for admission to schools and employment opportunities over American citizens.

Talk to people in the border towns.
Talk to people in farming communities who can't get spring summer and fall jobs in the towns they live in.
Talk to anybody who is looking for home construction type jobs. Or lawn care jobs.
Talk to people trying to get into temp service jobs, and can't. Or ask the people at those offices, how many of those jobs are now filled by illegals, or partially legals.

Dude, you're talking to the wrong people if you think that is true.
