All military personnel ordered NOT to wipe phone data

What is this about? Does the military have absolutely NO right to privacy in communications, etc., especially if it's a personal phone?

The Pentagon has issued a memo asking personnel not to delete data on their phones, calling it a “solemn responsibility and legal obligation” of all federal employees, both military and civilian.
In accordance with the Department of Defense (DoD) Instructions 5015.02 and 8170.01, personnel must retain text messages that are qualified as records as per the Federal Records Act, the Aug. 3 memo issued by Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks said. All mobile device service providers in the DoD are now required to capture and save data on “DoD-provisioned mobile devices” once users turn them on. This order is “effective immediately.”
“Under the Federal Records Act, a record is recorded information that is made or received in connection with the transaction of public business that is preserved or appropriate for preservation by an agency,” the memo stated.
“This information provides evidence of government organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other official activities, or is of value to the Department.”
The DoD Chief Information Officer (CIO) is working with the Secretaries of the Military Departments and other Component heads to ensure that the guidance is implemented in the Pentagon.
The memo also instructed the DoD General Counsel and the DoD CIO to assess the defense department’s policies and procedures ensuring compliance with the Federal Records Act. They are tasked with reporting back to Hicks with any recommendations within 30 days.

UCMJ is a catch all. Do what you’re told or suffer.

If you are going to use a government phone, you should not expect privacy on that phone... The way I read this it does not apply to privately owned/personal cell phones...

To be fair, there are qualifying statements. I don't see anything that says "every baw in the military has to keep all their texts on their personal devices".
As a citizen, that sounds fine to me.
again, on DOD provisioned devices. It doesn't say anything about personal devices.
Look, I am a typical toxic white male who fricking LOVEs to rage over shite, but this ain't it.

This sounds like it’s on their government issued phones, not their personals. Probably some of the oversight we want.

Not 'raging,' just asking. You can't keep too close of an eye on this pathetic excuse of an administration.
P.S. So, do military people routinely have at least 2 phones, one personal and one 'business?' That must get confusing.

this is only for DOD issued phone NOT PERSONAL PHONES.
This has been standard practice for a long time.

Rank and file don't have such. Brass usually do.

You better hope that you are not reinstated for prosecution purposes

None of this sounds like an invasion of privacy to me. Sounds like its just with Dept of Defense issued phones and data related to their service duties.
Sounds like good policy to me to prohibit government officials from deleting data off their government issued phones or related to their work duties.

Most do... If they are issued a DoD phone then they are supposed to utilize that phone for DoD business... It really is not confusing but it is a hassle and many will utilize their personal phones for DoD business as well... However, in doing so they open up their personal phone being pulled in when they do...

This is for military phones, devices, equipment.
ETA: This has been standard policy for a long time. Technically, none of us assume any privacy using NMCI equipment or any other DoD given items. It tells me this every time I reboot my machine or any time I log in to anything.

What is this about?
anyone who says a word negative about this administration or anyone in it will soon be brought up on charges and put in jail for it, that is what this means.

It basically says that if you choose to perform your duty/job on your personal device, you must retain those records in accordance with existing laws.
