Alabama has had a republican governor for 23 out of the past 143 years, Arkansas has out a republican governor for 15 years out of the past 143 years, Louisiana has had a republican governor for 20 years out of the past 143 years, and Mississippi has had a republican governor for 21 years out of the past 143 years. Republicans didn't gain control of the Alabama legislature until 2010, Arkansas legislature until 2013, Louisiana legislature until 2012, and the Mississippi legislature until 2012.

That means that republicans have total control of those states less than 5 years out of the past 143 years. Trying to blame the poverty problems of those states on republicans is not goi

It's like you guys have collective amnesia about Reagan's Southern Strategy

The pre-Reagan southern Democrats are closer to the current southern Republicans than they are current Dems.
The parties basically flip-flopped, when the Dems embraced the civil rights movement and the southern bigots all were convinced to leave and join the GOP

I'm gonna have to disagree with Mr. Alston there. If he spent more than one afternoon touring rural Alabama or the rural parts of any Southern state, he would realize that main reason why poverty is so great there is an over reliance on government aid (aka welfare).

So how do you explain states that have state government run welfare and aren't a shite hole?

Get a grip, man.

Jones never stood a chance

When the National mdemocrat media apparatus turns their attention towards state elections like this they only harm their preferred candidate

Newsweek wrote this to be adversarial because the writing is on the wall. But this derisive tone isn’t new and it’s killing democrats in elections

On social issues, sure, but absolutely not on economic issues. Southern dixiecrats were yuge supporters of Roosevelt's new deal. Dixiecrats were the ones that pushed through the SNAP program.

Ah...... The Black Belt. I always get a kick out of churches going to all these far flung 3rd world shitholes to go on mission trips. You don't have to go nearly that far. Our church goes to Sawyerville, Al.

Selma, Greensboro, Uniontown, Marion, etc, etc, etc. Two words: white flight.

Or you could watch the interviews of Alabama voters and see how this thing plays out and why. It's just tribal politics. G*wd forgave Roy for whatever.

So whatever.

Alabama is just like Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi, they are red states, but they are not conservative states. They are run by republicans who a social conservatives, but fiscally and economically liberal. The state governments have way more involvement and they love pork spending, and they are very wasteful with their spending.

I take back my older post. This is honestly what I've noticed with the more recent Louisiana/ Alabama elections.

The selling point is religious, but the fiscal policy is absurd (like TOPS)

PA, MI, WI just went red. MN just came close...the MN that went blue in 84

I’m telling you this is what they’re doing, and it’s counterproductive.

Jones never stood a chance but maybe, just maybe he could’ve capitalized on Moore being hard to stomach for post religious right young adults, but a month long diet of insults will have them voting Moore.

Democrats ooze with contempt for white and/or rural voters. Then they bitch they can’t win elections

I'm recently religious, but I'm still not voting for Moore. Not because I believe all the accusations, but because I don't like his politics. (Sure as frick not voting for Jones, though)

The Alabama Democratic Party could have easily won this election if the nominated someone who represented the values of Alabama voters, instead of the national party apparatus, but they're withering on the vine and I don't expect anything to change.

I genuinely wish they would try to put forth good candidates, so we might actually have a decent choice in elections (which I expect in a Battle v Maddox gubernatorial race), but at the moment, I'm just expecting either a GOPe cocksucker (like Strange), or an aberrant loon like Moore.

Why can't my home have nice things.

By post religious I don’t mean non religious

20s-40s crowd doesn’t need to be pandered to with religion like the boomers if at all.

Moore isn’t an attractive candidate IMO, but he looks a whole lot better when you read an article like this

They just don’t get it. People hate them and they’ll take any and every opportunity to flip them the bird

Welfare is common in the inner city where Obama & HRC is overwhelmingly supported. Making generalizations is not going to help you, because the sword cuts both ways.

Those states also have a high percentage of blacks, and we all know that blacks vote Dim. So what's your point?
