New Orleans is a crime riddled shithole. I'll take the rest of those you listed any day.
People like you thinking like this is the reason WHY New Orleans is the one of the few decent areas in this group of states.

Those play a major factor, but they are secondary. If the ppl in those communities didn't get so much help from the government, they would be forced to move to somewhere that had more economic opportunities.
That's the main problem. They are hanging on to dying or dead towns that really have nothing to offer the young or old. They aren't ghost towns. They're zombie towns, and they are scattered all across rural Alabama.
My people are from North Alabama and Sand Mountain. One side is well-educated and wealthy. The Sand Mountain side is like stepping back in time to the depression.
Except the one who is a pro fisherman.

Nola has a poverty rate TWICE as high as BR.

Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama awesome examples of what happens when republicans control the state government
Alabama has had a republican governor for 23 out of the past 143 years, Arkansas has out a republican governor for 15 years out of the past 143 years, Louisiana has had a republican governor for 20 years out of the past 143 years, and Mississippi has had a republican governor for 21 years out of the past 143 years. Republicans didn't gain control of the Alabama legislature until 2010, Arkansas legislature until 2013, Louisiana legislature until 2012, and the Mississippi legislature until 2012.
That means that republicans have total control of those states less than 5 years out of the past 143 years. Trying to blame the poverty problems of those states on republicans is not going to work, because the roots of those problems go back decades and the democrats are the ones to blame for that.

Keep the UN out of Alabama.
Many of those that live in poverty, do so by choice.

I hate Alabama as much as any LSU fan, but frick the UN.

Let's not get in a pissing contest about who is poorer folks. Just acknowledge there are pockets of really bad areas (not necessarily crime ridden) in all states. Have y'all been to the deep midwest?
What can we do to fix it? Other than forcing people to move. Setup schools to teach skills that can be used remotely such as coding, data entry, appointment setting, call centers, etc.?

Along with the rest of the Black Belt, Dallas County is solidly Democratic. No Republican has carried the county since Richard Nixon’s 3,000-county-plus landslide in 1972.
The UN official toured Selma Alabama, which is in Dallas County, and 68.3% of the residents of Dallas County voted for HRC.

Used to hate playing Dallas County in football.
Dirty arse fans threw rocks and spit on us.
Goat field for a football field. I think the endzone actually went UP a hill.
And they were the dirtiest team you could play.
Coach was a POS too. Wouldn't swap film with my Dad, a common courtesy among coaches at the time.
Only team we played where we were instructed to put our helmets on, and leave them on, before we left the locker room.

My hometown in NELA is one of those towns and I would hate to see it die, but that would be better than continuing the status quo.

These little southern towns were awesome up to the 70s, when they started dying

A small nugget to consider...poverty is mostly a choice in this country...and I've traveled every state, including Bama which I don't really like(but I've had to pass through it at times)...just one of many examples I could cite:I know a white male from Bogalusa ,La. with a masters in accounting and was a CPA on the north shore...he moved to Nashville thinking he was a music/song writer...he failed at that and has chosen to live on the streets/city parks/bushes,etc. of Nashville and draws food stamps and whatever he can get for free...he chose to be a bum...end of story!
