Water is one resource that Louisiana has in abundance.

The data centers have started to recycle the water they use. Water usage really isn’t an issue.

What a shite video.

"I spoke with *over a dozen residences*" (Wow! That's a lot!)

"Big business is big, construction loud and need light when sun go away"

"While some business are making money, others are suffering because they can't get in with the right people" (TF does this even mean?)

MDC in my neck of the woods is costing the average household $500 per year in added electric and water costs. All we hear..."it's only $45 per month". For 300 permanent jobs, no less...we are getting rooked. META also gets 35yrs of local tax abatement, $120M windfall from the county, and a $12M road improvement project from the city's general fund. Nice!

4 million s.f is less than 100 acres.

I'm speaking about the data centers in general.

The industry term is tenants. Use that in the future for clarity.

In a closed loop system...yeah. But it's not a volume of water that is concerning. The power consumption is the real issue. And the "infrasound" but that's another topic

Please stop the math stuff. It is unfair to use against a "journalist".

Are these charges that the utilities are using for improving capacity? Or is your electric/water just most expensive now?

You panicans do not understand what you are talking about. The only thing that an AI data center uses water for is for non contact cooling water. Not sure where they are planning on getting it but the center is out in the middle of nowhere and 15 miles from the Miss River.

The average flow of the Miss River is 700000 ft3 per second. That is 315 mil gallons per minute. But in the event they want well water it is doable, They just dont need to take out of the drinking water aquifers. I used to work at a major paper mill and our water usage was 45 mil gallons per day.

If any of you have been to Richland Parish, this location is out in the middle of pine tree plantations, cotton, and corn fields. The nearest "town" is 15 miles away.

Oh, and BTW these farmers are already irrigating those massive agricultural fields...

this should be illegal. Sounds like that TX county that luckily heard about that moslim town and able to shut it down.

Citizens need to start standing up against this.

They reclaim 95% of the initial pull. Most of that post was bullshite. They also exaggerated the size of the data center. 4 million square feet is about 91 acres not 2,250

Yep.

And so a quad chip will make the data centers obsolete. You mean to tell me the people driving tech worldwide forgot about the chip??????

On the other hand, wouldnt the infamous quad chip just make these centers faster??????

Wouldnt some of you be better served studyin Mandarin so you will be prepared when you have shut down AI in the states............

The water use for META isn't that much. That number is the absolute maximum design rate. Actual water use will be a fraction of that.

Eta: that's not to say that water use is not an issue in other places. There's a lot of stink about the Amazon data center that's going in Shreveport. Especially considering the public official NDA, shell corps, and code words that were used throughout the entire planning process to hide it from the public.

They're using ground water. And you're right. Granted it was from a META press release but they raised a good point that the data center will use far less water than irrigating the farmland where the site is being built.
