That's not Trumps fault that Obamacare is terrible. Dems made it terrible on purpose to try and get single payer.

Tennessee is a different animal, and local elections are just that...local.
Phil Bredesen (D) was a hugely popular, two term mayor of Nashville. He played a huge role in getting the Houston Oilers to move to Nashville and getting Nissan Stadium built. He then was elected governor, based on his success in Nashville, and again served two terms and was hugely popular, with a 65% approval rating during his first term. You don't get that kind of number statewide in Tennessee without red voters. He played a large role in getting Volkswagon to Chattanooga.
But the Senate is a different job entirely, with different responsibilities. This is why Bredesen never had a chance of winning his Senate race. Mayors and governors don't confirm SCOTUS justices or send foreign aid abroad, for example.
Times may be different now, however. Bredesen might not be liberal enough to win a Democratic primary for mayor in Nashville. The current mayor has been an outspoken obstructionist towards ICE. I don't think Bredesen would have done that.

If I am a party and my candidate is not within 10 then I need to realize my party has been rejected. If within 10, then I need to consider just how excited the other side was.
