I guess applying it to a debt is out of the question. Can't get any kickback from that.

Nevermind you might break an axle driving through New Orleans, but if you make it to the station you can hop the train to BR.

HUD unexpectedly told Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration that it could keep $20.5 million of that money, as long as the state spent it to help people in parishes most impacted by the devastating 2005 storms.

Edwards’ administration has decided to spend that money on the long-planned but slow-moving New Orleans-Baton Rouge passenger rail line.

Cost of building railroad tracks says the cost of material is $100 per foot. That doesn't include right-of-way of site preparation. Costs of a Rail Siding says the rule of thumb for new track construction is between $1 Million - $2 Million per mile, depending on who's building it.

Well it's even going to be slower seeing as to how that 20 mil will not even buy 20 miles of track. Hell, knowing La. at least half of that 20 will end up in execs and contractors pockets somewhere.

The 20M would likely go to infrastructure (albeit a very miniscule amount), and a corrupted private business would actually operate with the understanding that in the event of emergencies, the gubment can use.

When the initial 20M runs out, they'll institute a new tax or drain previously existing rainy day funds.

$20M windfall

California High-Speed Rail Authority show that the plan to build the 171-mile initial segment has shot up to a high of $35 billion, exceeding secured funding by $10 billion.

And CA hasn’t even built anything yet. Thai $20million will all make its way i to “studies” and donor pockets.

prelim estimates are 300M. The track is already there.

Yes. One of governments' core competencies is accurately projecting costs of major projects. Louisiana is especially good at it.

I’m glad they aren’t wasting this money on roads or schools. A train from BR to Nola seems so much more practical. Great job Roberto Boucher’!!!

The rest of the state can use it too when they're in town, so long as they don't mind smelling piss and vomit when the get off

A better use would be fuel for someone's fireplace for an afternoon this winter. In the end will cost less and someone would actually benefit for a few hours..

$20 million is for the grease. It'll be $2 billion before you know it.

$20M won’t get the train out of EBR Parish.

That is a multi billion dollar project. 20 million is just enough to fund some studies. Which of Edwards friends run consultant shops?

California should share their ingenuity of their high speed rail system that is such a dazzling success

Nah man.

He wants to take 3 hours to take a trip that would typically take 1 hour and he wants to spend millions of dollars to do it and he wants you to pay for it because he doesn’t like the drive.

It’ll never make money either.

It’ll be a permanent constant drain of taxpayer money for almost zero benefit.
