I wonder if those troops are being deployed one country east of Iraq.

Hopefully not but it would not surprise if that happens.

It cost us 4,500 killed, 30,000 wounded, and over 1 trillion dollars...AND we were lied to about the reasons for entry into the war.

Hillary, the UN and damn near everyone else believed there were WMD's. Other than the poison gassing of the Kurds, Saddam killed himself with a called bluff.

Didn't Saddam use chemical weapons in the Iran-Iraq war?

But does this mean we are about to hit Iran.
Obviously troops in Iraq would have been exposed in an all out aerial bombardment of Iran.

As much as Iraq was about WMDs. I appreciate President Trump’s relative candor in dropping that excuse once the deed was done.

Nobody I knew believed Colin Powell's dog and pony show at the UN. After the "Nurse" Nariyah (spelling?) made up story about the babies/incubators to justify the father's war in 1990, many of us were skeptical of the Bushes' stated reasons for sacrificing the best Americans and killing countless others in Iraq.
Colin Powell admitted that his presentation was a blot on his record and that he should have known better. You would think that after the Tonkin Gulf lies from "our" government that Americans would learn that the same government isn't always telling the truth about the justifications for military action.

There was a theory that Saddam believed he had WMDs as well but it was just his underlings lying to him because they didn't want to be executed. And therefore we believed (or wanted to believe) it too.
Don't know whatever happened to that theory. It's a little convenient.

Yes and we helped him deploy them successfully. This is the neo-con type behavior that has to cease, not imposing our will in our hemisphere
