House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) urged former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday to pick a black woman as his running mate to "reward" them for loyalty to the Democratic Party if he is its presidential nominee.

Clyburn, who endorsed Biden ahead of his South Carolina primary win late last month, told NPR, "I really believe that we've reached a point in this country where African American women need to be rewarded for the loyalty that they've given to this party."

He named a number of black women who he thinks would be good choices to share a ticket with Biden, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee and voting rights activist Stacey Abrams.

Clyburn also mentioned Democratic Reps. Marcia Fudge (Ohio), Val Demings (Fla.) and Karen Bass (Calif.) as potential choices, as well as Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. LINK

Clyburn is the Bernie of the South even though he supported Joe and saved his campaign here.

Make no mistake about it. Clyburn plays the race and gender card, at the same time, better than anyone.

James clearly doesn't understand the fundamentals of a VP. Neither of those women would help Biden one bit. I'd take a long, hard look (metaphorically) at Oprah, though.

That's raciest to pick a candidate just because of their skin tone.

Welp, that probably locks it up for either Harris or abrams. At this point, what Clyburn wants from Joe, Clyburn gets. He single handily saved the campaign in South Carolina

She deserves it. Especially after her wonderful contributions to the Impeachment Hearings.

That's some identity politics bullshite. Clyburn needs to look in the mirror first because him and his brothers sure the frick haven't rewarded black women for their loyalty to black men.

how would selecting a mildly intelligent, ugly, gap-toothed, racist who thinks she's the governor of Georgia... how would that 'reward' black American women in any meaningful way?

Let's, "Award" people the potential to run the entire country instead of picking the best and brightest. Real smart Clyburn. South Carolina is completely gerrymandered to keep ol Jim Clyburn in office. I would love to see his seat given to a South Carolinian who cares about the state of SC and not his own political well being.

Yes. Pander to a demographic that is already locked up and will turn out 94-6 Democrat.

That's how you build a coalition.

From what I've seen lately regarding Joey Dementia, he's liable to come back with a response that belongs in "Blazing Saddles"....
