Some of you have wondered how the American people could let the govt do what it currently does. With covid, with debt, with erosion of private rights.

Here’s your answer

Sorry I can’t look at you or take you remotely serious without seeing a broken, disheartened, loser of a man.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I am doing better and still pushing myself even more

Hopefully I can regain some lost ground on here so that great discussion of politics can be possible with fellow posters

I disagree with your views of Abraham Lincoln.

He could have been a lot more vengeful towards the south

He was a remarkably prudent and restrained man in the darkest hours of our republic

Thank you, Tim. We appreciate the work you're doing at The Bulwark.

Of course Lincoln was himself responsible for the first major shift in our Nation away from its founding ideals. Many believe he ushered in a new republic entirely.

He wanted reconciliation with no animosity. Charles Sumner and the Radical Republicans had other plans. The post-Civil War economic warfare known as Reconstruction would not have happened under Abraham Lincoln.

Such a peaceful gentle giant he was that he had no problem sending well over a half a million human beings to die a violent and bloody death just to keep a ragtag band of states together and solve an issue over countries solved peacefully without firing a single shot.

Abe Lincoln is the father of the massive blob we know as today modern American government. Such an embarrassment he's the first GOP President.

When this was written, america was looked upon as the pinnacle of political and economic freedom. To be fair, he has a lot to do with the events and federal overreach leading up to, and during, the civil war that soured a lot of international perception of America.

Keep doing this. Respect is earned. Respect lost requires diligence and strength to regain. I believe you have it in you.

Thicken your skin. Sometimes callousness is required in the fight. Just ask Donald Trump. Disregard the tweets and look at the results. Results lost due to corruption and the weakness of the observers.

Nietzsche was wrong. It is OK to become a monster on occasion when fighting monsters. That is our world now. Sad but true. A total victory is the only option at this point. Leaving a few cancerous cells leads to a mortal outcome.

I wasn’t aware that freeing 20% of America from govt-backed bondage is “statist”

This. He should have allowed states their right to peacefully secede. I think had he done that, eventually the union would have come back together once certain issues got resolved on their own peaceful time frame.

That was not worth the hefty price tag it carried in human lives and decades of upheaval and generational consequences it produced.

And we're still feeling those consequences today.
