All talk about what the dead man did to get cuffed should stop. It doesn't matter if he just killed 10 people. What he did is a totally separate issue, to be handled by the courts. We have not reached the Judge Dredd stage in this country yet.

So if it turns out the dead man murdered half the state of Michigan that still doesn't not give the cops the right to kill him.

Yes I realize the police officer did not try to kill him. The charges if any are to be handled by the Justice system. Justice is not the mobs right and it is not the right of any cop either.

Why does the autopsy report matter, other than in sentencing these pos cops? They could have easily treated this situation differently. That guy could have shot at those cops, and the cops would still be wrong to subdue him in that way.

Dylan Roof went peacefully and that was a transfer of locations. This guy in Minneapolis was an active arrest where he apparently resisted arrest for 7-8 minutes before the person started filming him on the ground.

Not saying what the cops did in Minneapolis was right or appropriate at all, but that was a stupid arse comparison from a stupid arse racist

People repeat this in these threads every time. There seems to be evidence to the contrary. The guy is dead. It’s almost like you’re wrong.

Seriously, even with out all that high profile attention given the LAST time this happened, and the guy is even saying he's having trouble breathing, he was subdued... effing moron.

Buddy cop tried to justify it by claiming they had to struggle to get him restrained for 10 minutes.

OK then....so he's restrained NOW. Cuff him and toss him in the cruiser. Why humiliate and torture the guy to death??

Seriously messed up.

Or people that are drowning can't scream I'm drowning.

If I can only get my 3rd or 4th breath I'm eventually going to pass out.

He was still on his neck when the ambulance showed up.

That's just insane. Not only that he felt he should keep doing that, but the three other cops didn't even say "Hey, I think we have him now."

Fired in less the 24 hours is telling. And also surprising. The city will still be subject to a lawsuit.

I'm curious what else could you see on tape to justify his murder.

Probably nothing. That doesn't change me being suspicious when limited video is shown. People do that for a reason, and the reason is not to give you more information so you can be informed.

There’s no additional information that will justify this perp’s death. He died in police custody.

Limited video? It’s 10 minutes long and you watch the guy from being alive to dead under a knee after being restrained and cuffed and communicating that he’s unable to breathe.

But... what happened 2 seconds before what we see in that video? That's VERY important. Might flip this whole thing upside down.

Revenge/payback. And because they could.

That's pretty much it.

As a cop, I can only try to convey just how wrong this encounter ended and how it doesn’t represent the majority of us.

The officers present should have intervened and prevented the primary officer from remaining on the arrestees neck. They all failed.

It’s not our job to kill, we protect lives. Force should all most never be used on a handcuffed compliant suspect.

These keystone cops make me sick. Truly an embarrassment to the thousands of men and women who serve the public with honesty, restraint, and compassion.

And yet the video linked started well after the arrest and any altercation. Did the phone just start working then? I doubt it.

I tend to agree with you, but I don't know what's wrong with more information.

Probably not. But the bystanders may have only started recording after he’s in custody for their own biased reasons as well.

??
The one I saw at the link was 2 minutes.

I'm just glad it's on video. 20 years ago this was just a "resisting arrest" report.

I am all for waiting to see how it plays out. Worth seeing autopsies and such. But....

My reaction from watching is this cat needs to do some prison time. I am sure he didn't mean to kill him. But if you kneel on the back of a person's neck for that long something bad is bound to happen. You had a cuffed suspect, on the ground, and multiple officers on hand. If he had knelt on his neck while cuffing I would cut him some slack. He was pissed, understandably, because of having to fight the guy, but you can't do what he did.

He could have decked all four of them.

Still doesn't give them the authority to kill him after they have him restrained.
