Randall Carson reports part of a mountain collapsed and shows before and after satellite images.

The glacier was on top of the mountain that fell.
Randall Carlson and Becket Fusik trace the event from the collapse on Langtang Lirung to the one gauge reading that survived, far downstream of the peak flow. Then Randall puts the number in context. By his live estimate, the ice age Missoula floods that carved the Channeled Scablands of eastern Washington were roughly 600 times larger. Planetary scale movement of water is not a theory. It is measured, published, and still written into the landscape, and events like this one are the yardstick that lets us picture it.

I have a sister with TDS that thinks it's Trump's fault because he and DOGE cut funding to some NGO that uses satelites to study glacier lakes that could have warned the people about the impending doom that nobody else saw coming

Neither is there about Helene. Response, yes, but we had over a week of daily rainfall prior to Helene. That’s what caused the mudslides and flooding. Not Helene alone.

Why should WE have a system in place to monitor glacial melt outside of our country? Should their government fund it?
