RFK was right in that post. Generally criminals are made by poor upbringing. It’s right and proper to feel sorry for criminals, but a society needs resolute law enforcement like a body needs antibodies. And if the thoughtful sympathy toward the criminal undermines law enforcement, then society will become unstable and unsustainable. Those who advocate excessive leniency are not serious adults and are themselves the product of a flawed upbringing.
