Best not to shoot people running away.
But its easy to say as someone who just didn't have someone try to break in and possibly try and kill you for some valuables. The emotions and adrenaline are on fire in the moments immediately after being a victim of such.
The perpetrator is the cause of those emotions and clouded thinking.
The homeowner's intention for the evening was to eat and sleep for work the next day. The burglar's intentions for that evening was to steal.

Very rational.
Yeah I get it. You feel physically threatened because of the sheer numbers. His defense would have to sell it to the jury that way (not because they were taking his stuff).

If the bullet through the door hit him and not one in the back while fleeing then the manslaughter charge won’t stick.
The rounds he fired after don’t matter. He can say he shot at the ground
At worst a reckless discharge of a firearm in city limits charge

Homeowner ended the threat. Temporary insanity for sure covers his reaction.

My exhibit A would be WorldStar... I ain't going 1 on 7 with that.
Although, me personally, if I were on that jury, "taking my shite" is valid- everything you own, you've purchased and/or invested time into. The taking of belongings is the taking of your life's finite energy. Absolutely defensible in my book.

Charges like these make us all less safe.
Should be executed.

I'm angry at the parents for stuff like this. Your son was breaking the law and putting other people's lives in danger. Don't sell me that they aren't responsible for the way they raised him and that he wasn't responsible for his own actions. How many videos have we seen where groups of them drag people down and nearly beat them to death.

I don’t support shooting at anyone who is running away even if they have just stolen from you. Too much chance to hit innocent people plus the eminent danger is going away.
It’s different if they just killed someone in front of you or tried to kill you.

If more people supported it, there'd be a lot less burglars and thieves.

“Perp” needs to sue all the kids and their families as well.

If I'm ever in a jury for something like this I'm letting the guy walk no matter what evidence the state has

Just flip him over and plug him a few times in the front. Problem solved

While they were in his garage he was not in immediate danger

Still, firing as they ran off may have F'd him
quote:This. This could happen to anyone reading this thread: trying to convince them to keep it moving after hitting one in a justified situation. If it reads correctly, he hit them in a perfectly legal situation, then fired as they were leaving and didn't make contact.
Maybe he was firing in the air to convince them to keep running... that's what my story would be.
He most likely was firing in the air. He's a taxpaying, law abiding citizen, not a pos breaking into homes: odds are he's not a bloodthirsty murderer, he just wanted to secure his family and estate by all means necessary.
Charges should be dropped. If I were on the jury, the sue-happy parents who raised the thief would get a "not guilty" from me.
