I will always wonder what would have happened if the south had voluntarily abandoned slavery and continued arguing the states rights issue.

I suspect they may have gained some support from northern states and things may have turned out much different, maybe the war itself may have been avoided.

We will never know now

Yep, if the south had voluntarily abandoned slavery but still wanted to secede I think it would've worked. Lincoln would've had a hard time convincing people in the north that the south should be held in the U.S. against its will.

Both sides would be getting more policies that they agree with right now and there would truly be a choice that Americans could make. The U.S. or the CSA. But at least people would have the choice.

The main problem is Dem scum is guaranteed to file suit and be hung up in the courts, defeating the purpose in the first place. Perhaps the legal authority also provides for expedited court review?

Until it gets to the SCOTUS that will side with the President. You don't think President Trump knows the Dems will try to use the courts to block it. He knows how it will end.

Driving so can’t get in depth right now, but found this great primer. It seems declaration of national emergency is where it’s heading so it would hehiove all of us to brush up on the legalities of it all.

The north didn't even voluntarily abandon slavery after the war was over

Including a state's right to legalize slavery.

Good riddance.

Obviously he does. Where did I state or imply that he doesn’t?

Our country will die when the people who built it from nothing are overtaken by hordes of non-white, third world immigrants. Every so-called conservative that denies the distinct, predictable differences of the various peoples of this earth is no better than the staunchest of progressives.

Completely agree with you. WASPs are what made this country what it was.

Ok, don't do it.

The next dem President will just do what he wants anyway. He'll have the media, courts, and state governments to help him do whatever he wants.

We'll get fascism, but you'll still have your principles.

This is a prime example of government overreach and abuse of power.
um...I don't think you understand the role of the federal government. Securing and protecting our country is the primary purpose of our government. About 99.9% of the things our government does is overreach. But, this isn't one of those things.

For example, creating the Department of Education and using it to convince generations that defending our borders is evil but killing unborn babies is virtuous, is a gross overreach.

Again, I certainly see your point. But what do we do when in 3 weeks Pelosi and Co. don’t come to the table and we’re back in the same spot?

I’m not a fan of governance by fiat. However, the President’s main job is to be the Commander-in-Chief of our military. He (and I also) see a massive weak spot and gap in our defenses (border) and if he has to declare a national emergency in order to hem those defenses up, I say let him. I do not think that him declaring a national emergency for something that clearly is a national emergency is a bad thing. The military is for our national defense, we should be defending our lines. Who do you think would go to the border should we be actually attacked?

He’s been willing to do this legislatively but they are simply not willing to play ball. He’s got another option, I say use it.

Well said.

Pelosi refused to negotiate with the government shutdown. Now she has 3 weeks to find a solution or Trump can handle it himself.

would you not enjoy massive raids by ice? Lets rid the nation of illegals now.
Who are they working for?
Make it a felony to hire one and in a year there will be millions gone, to Mex or Canada.

A presidents term is 4 years.

And did nothing for 2 of those years with full control regarding the wall. It only became an issue when repubs feared they were going to lose the house, then all of a sudden it became a "national emergency"

How can you not see this bullshite?

List out the times a national emergency was declared in coordination with mobilizing the military to push a political agenda despite major opposition from congress and a big chunk of the population

quote:

The United States declared a national emergency on September 14, 2001 in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks that remains in effect.[77] This emergency proclamation suspends certain provisions of law that limit the size of the military and the duration of military service. Former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and current President Donald Trump, have chosen to extend the duration of the proclamation each year following its original declaration. Currently, the proclamation will remain in effect until September 14, 2019, unless it is extended again by the president.[78]

quote:

On September 21, 2016, a state of emergency was declared in the U.S state of North Carolina for riots in Charlotte after a police shooting of a black male.

quote:

The U.S state of Maryland declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard of the United States on April 27, 2015, as a direct result of the rioting and widespread physical violence during protesting in Baltimore due to the Death of Freddie Gray.

to name a few...

Hell, he can just extend the 911 declaration and use that due to potential terrorist trying to gain access from the southern border, done bitches...
