A lot of butt-hurt in this World Series Game 1 Article

So I accidentally used google to get the score of the game this morning and came across this as the #2 suggested article. From the guardian so you’ve been warned.

quote:
World Series starts with both teams in court of public opinion Unrepentant cheaters and outdated nicknames? The Astros and Braves have attracted the ire of both fans and neutrals Tom Dart at Minute Maid Park in Houston @Tom_Dart
quote:
Manfred was less evasive on the topic of the Atlanta Braves, whose name and logo, along with fans’ crass “tomahawk chop” gesture, seem increasingly untenable after Washington’s NFL team dropped “Redskins” from their name and given that the Cleveland Indians are rebranding as the Guardians for next year’s MLB season. Yet Manfred defended them: “The Braves have done a phenomenal job with the Native American community,” he said.
quote:
Still, the commissioner may wish to brace himself when the series switches to Truist Park for Game 3 of the best-of-seven-games Fall Classic on Friday. He is less than loved in Atlanta, too, for yanking last summer’s All-Star Game out of Georgia after an outcry when Republicans in the state’s legislature passed a restrictive voting law following narrow election losses to Democrats in legitimate elections. (Some might also call that a cheating scandal.)
quote:
In short, this is not a World Series with a surfeit of charm and cheer to captivate neutrals, with all due attention to Houston’s stellar sluggers and Atlanta’s implausibly impressive late-season and postseason form, maintained with a 6-2 win on Tuesday despite their ace, Charlie Morton, pitching through pain before departing with a fractured right fibula that will rule the former Astro out until next year. The good news for the Houston fans who delivered their habitual deafening playoff atmosphere is that the “rally towels” they waved so enthusiastically for so much of a game that lasted over four hours can also be used to wipe away tears when your side is 5-0 down after three innings. Or cover eyes when your pitcher gives up the first Game 1 leadoff home run in World Series history.

The Dodgers and Sox make it over these two and the whining goes away despite the Sox being accused of cheating as bad or worse than the Astros.

Let the loser cry into his tampon, it was a great game if you like the Braves.

If the Braves change their name, they will instantly lose most of their fanbase.

Wow that person is nuts.
A large majority of the country does not view fracking as unfavorably as you do, you psychopath. We all just want sub-$2 gas back.
Roger Clemons not being in the Hall of Fame has nothing to do with steroids, and trying to tie him to Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire should rise to the level of defamation and he should lose his job over it.
quote:
Appointing the universally liked Dusty Baker has proved an on-field masterstroke, even if at the time in January 2020, two months after the Athletic broke the story, it felt like a calculated PR move to address an image problem, as if Exxon had hired Tom Hanks to run their fracking business.

Then again, this is a sport with a long memory, one that is slow to forgive. Pete Rose, exiled since 1989 for gambling, could tell you that. Steroid-era icons Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa are still not in the Hall of Fame and probably never will be. Mark McGwire did not come close.

I don’t know how anyone can expect to share a nation with people like that long term.
It’s as though your roommate has gone insane and you either have to kick them out somehow or go along with it.

I hope the Braves win it all after they yanked the All Star Game and sent it Colorado which ironically had even more restrictive voting laws than the one passed in GA.

I'm surprised this lunatic didn't try to somehow tie Curt Schilling into his hit-piece too.

Clemens not being in the HOF is due to a few issues and accusations, not proven, of PEDs is one of them.
Clemens being a notorious a-hole is also a strike against him since the BBWA loves to play favorites. And I personally know he is an a-hole due to my interactions with him at spring training one year.

There are no bigger bunch of leftist kuntz in the world than baseball writers.

The dude beat charges of perjuring himself before Congress when he said he did not use PEDs under oath. I'm sure there are writers still clinging to the hope that the courts were wrong and he actually did use them, but that's an indictment of them, not him, imo.

I think there is definitely some of that going on as well. PEDs might just be a convenient excuse for some of them.

I won’t call them all leftist but the BBWA are notorious assholes about virtue signaling and not voting for players for personal reasons.
Lots of ballots have gone in blank over the years or had deserving names left off because of protests over Pete Rose, the Black Sox, “This guy doesn’t deserve 100%”, “This guy doesn’t deserve in on the first ballot”, etc.
These tend to be the same guys who voted Mo Vaughn over Albert Belle for MVP simply because Belle had a bad relationship with the press to say the least.

I don't think they are allowed into the fraternity of baseball writers these day unless they are disgustingly politically left.

that lie. See how repeating it works. Truth be damned.

Probably.
I am still thinking of 20-30 years ago. I had an indirect connection to a Cleveland Plain Dealer writer who was able to get me a signed ball from Belle which had one of the rarer messages from him, which was a specific bible verse. He only gave those to people he liked.
The writer in question must have been seen as a straight shooter by Belle for him to do that.

From a FORMER Astros fan,
Screw The Guardian, screw the Braves AND the Astros and that entire leftist pussbag league. I hope all pro sports go bankrupt.
