A good target for the DOGE team is the USPS

These frickers lost 9.5 billion dollars for their fiscal year 2024. They lost 6.5 billion in 2023, so it seems this is getting worse.

All they need is one more rate hike!

Surely NASA is one of the first agencies on the chopping block.

And that probably doesn’t include the money they lost by losing or trashing mail they were responsible for delivering.

They should be. NASA has done nothing of real substance since the final Apollo mission. SpaceX can do it all.

How much could be saved if we dropped to three delivers a week? I don't even check my mailbox daily and it just sale ads.

This would be great. I have had an online business for about 10 years. The last 4 years we have had 3 rate hikes per year not counting the 'Seasonal Rate Hike". I ship about 30 packages a day. in August i cost around $6.50 to ship to the west coast not its over $8.30. Same with the northeast. The zones are all messed up now. Its a joke.

I’m not talking about replacing NASA.
If cuts need to be made then lunar and mars operations aren’t happening.

But they have brand new EV trucks with a/c now. I'm sure that will help them deliver the mail more proficiently from now on eventhough my rural mail carrier left a package on the ground next to my mailbox post this past Saturday.

A had a package that sat in the Atlanta Post Office Sort Facility for 27 days before getting to my house.

Way more important things to go after than the postal service.

That's what everyone always says: cut them, not me.
Everything needs to be on the table, including my own agency.

Don’t forget stealing too.
Postal employees have been stealing millions of dollars of goods and checks here in the Atlanta metro.

Whats even crazier is it was the only office in the green until Obama took over then he changed the way pensions and healthcare where done for the USPS and its been crap ever since.

THIS. Was just thinking about this a few weeks ago when DOGE was first being mentioned and I had to wait half an hour in the damn line to mail something. I know the left will say they don't get tax payer money, but we do subsidize the USPS, so yes, our tax dollars are at play. Most inefficient entity in the world.

I'll just say this. I thought the same for a very long time.
However, only one postal delivery service MUST deliver to everywhere in the United States. It's USPS.
If the route will not generate money, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and the others will not service it.
I'm sure there is waste in there, but the USPS is different than the private carriers.

I remember when stamps went from 3 cents to 4 cents. And the service was a LOT better. Today, they don't deliver you mail if they don't feel like it.
Hell, the mail ladies in Shreveport make more money than the policemen.

It was before my time, but they used to deliver twice a day.
One quick way they can save money is to get rid of walking routes. Put a box on the street or you don't get mail. Simple enough.

So taking money away from them would help this how...?

Yes, that was very common in major cities in the N.E. Also, there were private delivery services of mail in the 1800s. They were banned because post master positions were jobs that big donors got when their guy won an election. Kinda like when you give a million bucks to the presidential campaign and you are appointed ambassador to Switzerland.
