I thought we kept mostly sweet crude there.

What exactly is the difference in the two & how is one better or worse than the other? Can they be mixed - these questions are for all those LSU petroleum engineers out there!

Sour crude has a higher sulfur content than sweet. Sour crude is more difficult to refine and as such more expensive to refine. Sweet crude is more expensive to purchase because it's easier to refine.
Yes, they can be mixed, and often are to adjust sulfur content.

All true but he left out that 70% of the US's refining capacity is designed for sour crude.

Most of the Gulf refineries are designed for sour crude. There’s a reason why American light is called WEST Texas sweet crude.
