That is an excellent question. How and why do they get so off the rails?
Do they have to much time on their hands? Do they watch to much MSNBC, the view? What the hell is it? The hard leftist are certainly radicalized.
Why does the left have so much hate? It's hate, pure evil hate. Maybe its from envy, maybe from being unhappy, or mental illness, but whatever it is it needs treatment.

My opinion?
They are convinced of the great lie that man created God and thus life has no purpose and no meaning and so truth and happiness have no meaning. This is only possible if you force yourself every minute of every day to block reality and the Truth out of your life and your mind. One crack in that constantly reinforced shield of narcissism and falsity destroys your entire world view and worse sets your soul on fire with what you absolutely know to be the truth but you have been fighting to deny.
That rush of emotion triggers self loathing but because they refuse introspection they lash out with anger and hatred at anyone who dares confront their warped creation because acknowledging their reality is too painful. They would rather kill someone who challenges them than accept the challenge because their positions are ultimately indefensible. And they know it. Deep down they all know it.
The Truth that will set you free is that God created man, he loves every one of us, and he gave us free will. If we use that free will to worship Him and walk in his example we live a life full of meaning and we find peace. You simply have to deny yourself and choose Him instead. Without Him there is no peace. We are simply left with the ultimately empty and worthless fleeting pleasures of this material world. Pleasures that can never live up and never satisfy you for more than a fleeting moment.
