Agree and disagree
20+ years is a bitch and not all veterans do the same shite.
20+ year airborne infantry man jumping out of planes 60+ times doing more demo and entirely too much weighted running and walking with 60-80lb dry rucks than they should be to stay healthy vs a 6-8yr supply clerk not doing any of the above and getting equal wear and tear rating benefits for physically destroying there body mainly knees back and TBI is not the same.
So yes the rating system is flawed bc they have to treat all the service members equally and doctored wording benefits the turds and really fricks the guys in the mud

Why the explosion after 2013, when we'd already been at war for 12 years?
Because it wasn't known. It took time to get the word out to include several letters from your Congressman encouraging you to talk to a VA Dr to see if you qualify.

Feds don't tax VA disability pay, do they?
No because its considered Workers Compensation payments which are not taxable.

You do realize that this is not a criteria for receiving VA disability?
You can have a high rating and still be a high earner. The two have nothing to do with each other.
You may have the opinion that its not right and as a taxpayer you are entitled to your opinion but don't fault the veteran for taking advantage of a benefit they earned.

Again, no one has a problem with legitimate claims.
The problem is ignorance of the system. What most of the people on this board don't understand is that most of what they consider fraud are legitimate claims.
They have an image of what disability looks like and when they see or hear about someone's rating and it doesn't match that image their thoughts go immediately to fraud.
This is most evident by the 10,000 or so posts complaining about someone having a high rating even though they can work a job that makes big bucks.
Joe public is completely unaware that VA disability payments have absolutely nothing to do with can you work. This isn't the same as your employers disability insurance. It's more like your employers workers compensation program.
They also hear 100% and think it should be someone that is completely disabled. They have no idea how VA math works and don't realize that you can have 100% rating via multiple smaller ratings that accumulate to 100%

but I still reserve the right to question the process. Same with veterans disabilities
Absolutely, as a taxpayer you have the right and should question the process especially if you don't agree with it.
But don't question the veterans that have filed claims to and are receiving benefits that they earned because the process doesn't match what you think it should be.
There's the difference these threads are never really about questioning the process but instead calling a bunch of veterans scam artists, fraud, etc.

Could MHS Genesis account for the rate of veterans receiving disability benefits going up 5x?
Not nearly as much as word of mouth within the Veteran community. Most prior to 2012 probably never realized that 25 years after service they would qualify for disability for the ringing in their ears, bum knees, bad back, etc. Injuries during service + father time taking its toll on body equals an increase claims. Word of mouth increases it exponentially.

It’s a known scheme that many “vets” utilize. I myself served with no medical issues during my service. I have no inkling or interest to drum up an ailment to get a check. I know too many with the mindset of “well they used me, so now I’ll get mine”. It’s an entitlement issue even though they volunteered for duty. To those vets that need the benefits, I hope they get theirs in a timely manner.

And if we are really going to be honest here, the vast majority of those entering the military did so because they were broke with not much brain power nor skills. So it's really not all that surprising that they feel the need to scam when they get out. Downvote away, but you know it's the truth.
So West Point and the other academies are bad schools?
ROTC scholarships are for dummies?
You are ignorant.

Not to mention military veterans far out pace civilians when it comes to education and degrees. It's not like our military isn't dealing with cutting edge technology or anything.

While I certainly don’t begrudge a Veteran’s VA disability rating, I do question the proliferation of the 100% rating. I am sure there are many that rate 70, 80 or even 90%, but 100%? I feel the 100% designation has become too easy to obtain and is taking away valuable resources from those who truly deserve them for their service and sacrifice.
Like many of my retired peers who I have discussed this with, when you hear 100% we automatically think of a Veteran who has lost a limb, has been deprived of mobility or vision, has been seriously burned or has a TBI that is detrimental to them obtaining and maintaining full time employment. A 100% rating, and ALL the benefits that come with, should be the exception for those treasured Veterans who left a significant part of themselves overseas during an operation or at home during training which limits their ability to maintain fulltime employment and assists them at home with activities that most of us find routine.
Fix the rating system to ensure benefits go where they belong.

I know a few personally that are 100%. I was good friends with one, until I kept noticing his grift continuing with everything in his life. It became disgusting to watch and hear about. Nearly every contractor that stepped foot on his property was threatened with a lawsuit. He let everyone he met know right away that he was a disabled combat veteran. An absolute scam artist this guy is.

You really are a pos
First you want to throw a bunch of taxation on people so you can get “your” money from ss. Now you think we should be paying workers comp veterans payments to 55 year olds with bad knees and backs but are otherwise perfectly healthy
You probably collect disability and fleece the taxpayers daily

It's not easy. Especially with a P&T rating, it's the rarest of 3 protected ratings.
Oddly, there are a decent amount of people with 80% ratings, but draw 100% compensation levels. To my knowledge, those people are considered individually unemployable. I don't know exactly how that one works.
BTW, the fraud rate for VA compensation is less than one one-hundredth of a percent. They prosecute less than 200 people per year for VA fraud. Yes, the number is higher than that, it has to be. The VA is pretty damn thorough when evaluating claims, but it's still the government.

F that.
It's all MAGA people too, i hate welfare, i hate entitlements, i hate wreckless spending.... well until it comes to MY CHANCE to scam the taxpayer for millions. Then it's legitimate of course, but only when it comes to ME.

I think he's just pointing out that some people that have a disability may not look like what you'd think a disabled person should look like.
If a person was completely deaf he'd be considered disabled on all levels, not just VA. But you can't tell just by looking at that person.

Successfully had all of you come out of the woodworks for "gimme mines."
But we are only 40 trillion in debt.
So I agree to give everyone that signs up 1 million dollars a year for life.
Now get back to the golf course.
